six to eight credit hours of foreign languages or cultures to the distribution requirements for a bachelor of arts degree will be presented to the faculty of the college of arts and sciences for a second time at its meeting mondav — — — . ml lit j . the proposal which the faculty originally passed on dec 5 but tabled dec 11 contains three minor revisions presented by the arte college policy committee according to donald ryan professor of geological sciences and chairman of the committee the faculty had intended to put the finishing touches on the revised distribution requirements at its dec 11 meeting explained john hunt dean of the college of arts and sciences it was sent back to the policy committee however when the motions that were being brought up were more substanitive than housekeeping measures he said the proposal as it stood then was not complete enough for us to institute the change he added the revisions to the proposal are really just statements that go along with what the faculty has already approved on dec 5 ryan said they include a stipulation that no student may use a single course to fulfill two distribution requirements in different categories which is consistent with existing university policy a mechanism for changing the list of 27 courses that would satisfy the foreign culture option and a provision the suitable culture courses should identify the distinctive and detailed patterns of a non-english language the revised proposal which would raise the current distribution requirements to 44-48 credit hours from the current 38-40 b&w photo by vincent glutthl emergency it took a community 9 ambulance 29 minutes to respond to a dec 20 emergency call front the campus police according to andy robbins b co-director of residence halls security rooms a member of residence operations who asked not to be identified said right now 60 gryphons employed by the dean of students office report to one of three area coordinators in tbe 16 campus police first aid skill limited bybillveliky not all campus police are trained in first aid nor can they all use the first aid equip ment supplied to them according to andy robbins 80 co-director of residence halls security when campus police were notified on jctec 2o4ha.t j&rid cred salloum had fceen assaulted with a hammer they immediately called ccimmurtity 9 the volunteer ambulance corp that serves the university according to eugene dax chief of campus police the police got to salloum in a matter of minutes and were equipped with lifesaving first aid equipment dax continued however they had to call robbins to administer first aid because the situation was beyond their level of training robbins said when they arrived on the scene they called me because i am certified in first aid treatment robbins explained all campus police will soon be required to know first aid treatment dax said the ones who do not know it now will be required to take a course in first aid he said he did not say when the opurse will be taken robbins said he used their equipment to administer first aid until the ambulance arrived it took about twenty minutes after the ambulance was called for them to arrive he added the ambulance was out on a call when we telephoned them and did not respond immediately dax said their arrival was also delayed because the roads were very icy that morning virginia harris community 9 am bulance chief and sieve hilberg of allied maintenance disagreed with dax's comments i was on duty that morning and we were not on a call when we were tele phoned we responded as soon as we were called harris said i do not know exactly how long it took us to get to salloum nor do i remember what the weather conditions were she city to purchase south side lot next to terminal by jennifer wilson the bethlehem city council finalized arrangements at their meeting^tuesday night for the purchase of the 1.4 acre parking lot adjacent to the old city garage building presently owned by the university with a vote of four-to-two in favor of the purchase the council agreed to pay the university 173,000 for the land with the stipulation that lemgh be able to lease back a portion of it to be used for student parking the purchase of the lot because of its proximity to other city-owned properties is according to councilman charles donches a major element in tbe future revitahzation of the south side business district it makes nothing but good sense to make a whole parcel of land for future development he said according to councilman otto ehrsam the land is
