lehigh university brown and white val tl - w 5 bethlehem pa friday february is imt hmil-4114 eubie called off schedule mixup cited by jim morrison the student activities council sac has been forced to cancel the feb 20 showing of the play eubie due to a scheduling conflict in grace hall ac cording to sac and administration of ficials gregory schulze director of intra mura is and recreation said wednesday the show would have interfered with women's basketball practice and the volleyball ciub previously scheduled in grace hall also karate fencing and badminton w scheduled in upper grace schulze law responsibility for scheduling of grace hall william quay dean of students and schulze reached a joint decision to not allow sac to use grace hall laura schrier sac president said wednesday she thought that grace hall had been reserved properly by the sac for their event schrier said the sac had previously scheduled grace hall through the community relations office secretary barbara talarico '/.,: ; simply checking with talarico had been the procedure for scheduling grace hall previously schrier said however quay said thursday the sac went ahead and contacted this group for the play before they had proper authorization for the hall in order to reserve grace hall the council has to fill out a form which is signed by schulze the community relations office the office of physical plant both rotc programs the athletic director and the dean of students office they know what the form is quay said he added the form was not a change from previous procedure in contradiction to schrier's comments schrier said the volleyball dub was willing to move its activities from grace hall barbara lipkin assistant director of athletics for women said wednesday the women's basketball team was not willing to move to another building the women are in a four-game homestand this week and need to practice in grace site of their home games schulze added also both schulze and lipkin said a women's basketball home game scheduled for tuesday evening would have to be changed *^ after he checked with buildings and grounds monday schulze said he was tow it was very doubtful such a show could be set up and taken down in one day sac had not yet put in a work order and manpower was committed elsewhere on the 20th he explained however schrier said walter kunz former concert chairman who handles sac show setups told her the work could have been done in one day if there is not enough manpower sac pays overtime or gets extra help schrier said she added that the show was booked for an extremely good price the show was booked for one open date on its tour tickets had been sold and some ad vertising had already been done the council will take a loss on the cancelled project she said schulze said his office tad learned of the conflict through ads in the brown and white on friday he said to move the in tramural and varsity events from grace would simply just have displaced other groups at other sites and would not nave solved any problems the total number of persons in grace affected by such a move according to schuize's figures would be less than 150 at most also both schulze and lipkin said they were told by schrier a contract had been signed and the council stood to lose money if the show did not take place such was not the case schulze said be later found out " uestion s«r a group can advertise and s ii on something it doesn't have a ntract on schulze william quay faculty members disagree on need for forum change by rich lerner i do not believe that the reorganization of the format will in any way imporve die quality of its forum functions and hence i don't think the question of format is of any significance said john karakash dean of the college of engineering and science karakash who was active at the in ception of forum 10 years ago was one of several professors asked to comment on he bell report and the current status of forum ideally he continued a forum should be a place for an open examination and discussion of premises upon which major decisions are to be made brian brockway professor of ac counting and law favored the idea of a university senate composed of students and faculty but added it should be a much smaller group than at present mark ellis associate dean of the college of arts and sciences said the forum needs more faculty involvement many faculty view it as a chore he said it's not the same as serving on a university committee david amidon professor of urban studies said he felt the forum could survive indefinitely i don't think the forum has any problems he said amidon said the reason why the forum is being accused of ineffectiveness is because lehigh is such an apolitical campus there are people who wish we had more problems than we do he added steven krawiec associate professor of biology said the forum provides a regular opportunity for faculty students and administration to meet together it is clear that the administration takes those meetings seriously he said noting that administrative officials regularly attend the meetings jgjgjgajljptaing faculty involvement krawiec said the faculty needs a little their convictions krawiec said that in the end the university would be worse off if the forum were disbanded ;
