that several bands had canceled their tours the student activities council sac concert committee an nounced this week that the pat metheny group a fusion jazz band will perform march 24 in packard lab auditorium pat metheny whose american garage album is currently number one on national jazz charts is the fifth concert attempt by the sac this year earlier the allman brothers band and the doobie brothers band were considered but both groups canceled their tours finally in november the sac presented the jefferson starship but according to sac concert chairman john nersesian 80 poor timing turned the concert into a failure and a financial loss this semester plans were announced for a steve forbert-dave mason concert but the sac's bid was too low nersesian said most recently the marshall tucker rand was suggested but his promoter called stabler arena too expensive meanwhile the interfraternity council ifo and the residence halls council rhc have become very impatient with the sac concert committee according to rhc activities chairman scot farrell 81 now with dean of students william quay's blessing farrell said the two campus organizations are attempting to co-sponsor concerto independent of the sac laura schrier 80 sac president said she is upset over the division between the sac and rhc-ifc schrier said that because there is presently no coordination between the three organizations she is afraid that concerts will be scheduled back-to-back and will result in financial loss for the promoters in the end she said no promoters would want to do concerts at lehigh however ken hollen ifc president argued in defense of the rhc and ifc's independent plans hollen said both organizations had approached the sac earlier this year with a proposal to coor dinate concert planning efforts un fortunately hollen said nersesian rejected the proposal he wanted us to run around and do his errands hollen complained and we didn't think that was very equitable hollen also said the ifc and rhc will be communicating with the sac about con cert scheduling schrier did not entirely blame the ifc or the rhc for the split however more than the ifc she said i resent the way dean quay handled it he never even told me that they were allowed to do concerts i had to find out through rumors at a cocktail party rut dean quay denied responsibility for ihe new division over concert planning under existing policy 1 * he aeid no one has the exclusive right to schedule con certs quay said he had net given anyone permission to do anything but had just stated the rules farrell said the rhc and ifc's main reason for working independently is that laura schrier campus police trained in first aid by linda pickens the first aid training of the campus police is the same as that of local police forces according to eugene dax chief of campus police in order to become state-certified police officers campus police must attend the state police academy as must all ponce officer candidates first aid and cardio pulmonary resuscitation cpr are part of this training but they are not tested on these for the final examination dax said it's not an extended or elaborate course patrolman joe keglovits bethlehem police crime prevention officer said he agreed with dax that both thl city and campus police receive the same standard first aid course of 20 hours the additional cpr course requires another nine hours ef training under red cross guidelines according to craig bernhardt 81 student liaison between the community nine ambulance service and the lehigh university volunteers luv refresher courses city police receive an eight-hour refresher course in first aid every three years according to keglovits the course is taught by city ambulance crew para medics he added ' ah 10 campus police officers are state certified but only seven have been trained in the newer cpr techniques dax said of the remaining three officers two are be taught by michael goldner ut 4 certified american red cross instructor and member of the residence halls security staff dax added that he is in the process of setting up a one-day refresher course in first aid for the campus police force for something like this there is no problem as far as money it's just a matter of scheduling things dax said the process of improving the training of the campus police was started before the dec 20 assault of fred salloum dax said according to campus police sergeant neil schlottman called andy robbins 80 co director of residence halls security < rhs to administer first aid scfdottmah did the right thing in calling robbins who is well educated in first aid to the scene when he realized the situation was beyond his level of training dax said it is not the job of a police officer to function as a paramedic but to get aid to . the scene of an accident as soon as possible dax said may find a home bybillvelicky the stabler athletic and convocation center acc in saucon valley may become the home of a professional indoor soccer team next winter according to richard fritz director of events the pennsylvania stoners of the american soccer league asd are trying to field a team for the 1960-81 season and are looking to the stabler center as their home willie ehrlich president and coach of the stoners said the people at the stabler center are enthusiastic about the possibilities of
