lehigh university brown and white bethlehem pa tuesday april 2f i*m y«-m-w*#t529 21s-wl-41m kissinger plans cause changes for graduation graduation ceremonies on june 1 will begin 15 minutes earlier so that com mencement speaker henry kissinger can make a 5 p.m meeting in washington presumably with president carter the ceremony which was supposed to begin at 3 p.m was moved to 2:45 to ac comodate kissinger as soon as kissinger finishes speaking a helicopter will pick him up in the nearby saucon fields and shuttle trim to the allentown-bethlehem-easton airport a chartered airplane will then take him to washington according to james harper director of community relations harper said kissinger did not inform the university if he would be meeting with the president but he isn't going down there to play poker harper said graduation tickets and programs are being reprinted as a result of the 15-minute change they will be distributed may 5 originally they were to be handed out yesterday harper said the 15 minutes would make a big difference for kissinger at first the former secretary of state requested that graduation be moved to another day one source told the brown and white quarter-ring children of all ages gathered on the lawn of packer chapel thursday afternoon and entered a world of fantasy and magic as the royal liechtenstein performers presented the world's smallest complete circus see story page 5 news analysis to consider the issue in the context of university-wide governance the com mittee's preliminary report advocates a single coordinated structure which in corporates part of the dual system to most efficiently handle problems at the university the bell committee chaired by raymond bell chairman of forum vi and assistant professor of education was to examine how the forum could be changed fling swing fi&w photo by glenn smith university students got a chance to get la the swing of things at saturday's first annual spring fling nearly 4m people attended the day-long affair with rides games athletic events and even a blue grass band mother nature put a damper on things though with drizzle and cool temperatures governance proposals discussed by kathy mangan because of harsh criticism and many problems the forum and university governance as a whole is undergoing drastic changes which will ultimately involve all student and faculty groups on campus although most people agree that a more coordinated and efficient system of governance is needed there is wide dis agreement concerning the mechanism to accomplish this goals the forum structure and purpose com mittee also known as the bell committee last semester presented a report ad vocating a dual system of governance for the forum however due to the many inadequacies seen in the report the forum structure drafting committee was set up to meet the needs of its constituents and allow full and responsible treatment of long and short term problems the committee soon realized that the issue concerned the adequacy of the governance vehicle at the university and that the problem could not be restricted to the forum ■bell report the bell report recommended that the student and faculty forum members meet separately to discuss issues which concern them representatives from the adminis tration would be nominated to each group the two groups would meet jointly at least once each semester and special joint sessions could be called when necessary a small coordinating committee would serve as communication between the two groups a small group would also be elected from each body to serve as repre sentatives to the other body special joint rape prevention program introduced by policewoman by kathy ignar a rape prevention program by campus policewoman marcella sos will be in corporated into the freshman orientation program next year according to muriel whitcomb assistant dean of students sos will present her program in con junction with the dean of students office to each women's hall during the first two weeks of classes whitcomb said sos has already presented this program in a sorority and in mree residence halls the program deals with safety awareness for a woman in her home car dormitory or on the street whitcomb said the effort is being made to educate all co-eds so they will be prepared and aware individuals the objective of this program is to give the woman a sense of control or power and net a feeling of helplessness whitcomb said the program consists of movies han douts a lecture and a self-defense demonstration by sos and is discussed as three specific topics one area covered is self awareness in see drafting page c see self-defense page 5 inside : palestine myth p 4 spring fling p 4 stickers win p.b
