around the country it was an attempt with very small chances of success commented michael hodges professor of international relations the risks of a failure far out weighed the chances of success he ad ded henderson braddick also a professor of international relations said the attempt might have been good from a domestic policy standpoint but that m the long run the effects could be serious both hodges and braddick maintain that there must have been some advance understanding with iranian military i believe the operation would have required the assistance of a fifth column a group of iranian sympathizers hodges said it's impossible for me to believe that american planes coming from two directions flying for hours m iranian air space landing and then a rescue operation travelling over land 250 miles to teheran could have been done m complete secrecy from iranian authorities braddick said . somebody tipped them off he added hodges and braddick agreed that reports of increased defenses around the embassy and accounts that the hostages had been moved clearly indicate that the iranian government knew of the proposed plan hodges especially expressed concern over future relations with united states allies ~ it is a noble sentiment to say better to have tried and failed than not to have tried at all but m foreign policy you are not dealing with noble sentiments he said braddick explained that president carter had informed the allies that there would be no military operation at the same time that he had secretly authorized this move from their the allies point of view he continued they had been deceived hodges commented that the american public will be able to accept the under handedness of any collusion but that more disastrous will be the long-term 24 percent more interviews result in more job offers by joe feller an increase m the number of on-campus interviews company recruitment and job offers have resulted m one of the busiest years for the placement service and a very productive year for university students according to eugene seeloff director of placement services approximately 24 percent more students than last year had interviews and 31 percent more offers have been extended seeloff said as of wednesday 60 percent of the engineering students 40 to 50 per cent of the business majors and 15 percent of the students from the college of arts and science have reported job offers to the service he added more than 350 companies and 850 recruiters have been on campus this year seeloff said most of these people have commented consistently on how well prepared university students are for in terviews he added seeloff attributed such success primarily to the students hard work most seniors were extremely serious about the search process and as a result got the quality as well as the type of jobs they wanted he said engineering majors are getting more offers and better starting salaries seeloff said because of the nature of the market place yet seeloff cautioned that other majors should not despair if they have hot already secured jobs he maintained that it is still early enough to locate excellent job oppor tunities m many fields the only reason these students are slightly behind the eight-ball is because their talents are not m as great demand as the engineers seeloff added currently the exact number of job of fers acceptances and salaries have not been announced by the service final totals are not calculated until all job related information is gathered and analyzed which should occur by graduation seeloff said quay answers charges leveled by sac leader by kathy m angan in a letter to the editor last week m the brown and white laura schrier 80 past president of the student activities council sac stated that the problems m the dean of students office are growing worse and that they are affecting student life and the efforts of the sac dean of students william quay this week replied that schrier is inferring a cause effect relationship which does not exist and that changes m the staff are not connected with the problems of the sac schrier cited last year's ill-fated spring fling cancellation of the x rated movie the story of o the mixup this semester over grace hall for the broadway play eubie the recent prohibition of alcohol m university buildings unless served with food and the concert
