reserve corps students who were called to active duty last week have had their orders recinded dean wray h congdon announced today rotc engineering men are relieved army recinds orders of 11 erc students newtonians announce second contest problem five dolars is the first prize in the contest sponsored by the newtonian society second and third prize are 3 and 1 respectively the contest con sists of solving a series of five problems the second of which follows below all solution must be turned in to ralph a evans phys 45 450 carlton aye not later than feb 16 a man had a certain num ber of pennies nickels and silver dollars in the amount of 20 he had 100 coins alto gether how many of each did he have grapplers crush yale indiana army quits college athletics winter called by air corps frank winter handsome lehigh heavyweight wrestler had a prom ising career nipped in the bud saturday when he received a let ter from the third service com mand baltimore ordering him to report thursday morning at the customs house in philadelphia he will begin active training in the army air corps considered the most promising heavyweight since howell scobey by many of the people who have seen him in action in his two short years of competition frank seem ed headed for further acclaim in intercollegiate wrestling circles when the order appeared he had scored three decisive victories this year and had lost only to pickett of yale in an un fortunate mix-up in which he wrestled thi-cugh the last two per iods without an advantage con fusion at the timer's table deprived him of his turn in the referee's position he lost a 7-3 decision but his performance against bochnicka of indiana last friday night will endear him to lehigh fans for days to come he threw the bulky giant continued on page 3 frank winter . . . . . . goes to air corps beat hoosiers 24-6 eli bows 22-5 next meet against perm by ted heck lehigh scored decisive victories over indiana and yale last week end and remained along with perm and navy one of the three unbeaten wrestling teams in ma jor eastern colleges smashing the hoosiers in an intersectional match friday night in grace hall by a lop-sided score of 24-6 the en gineers duplicated the feat sat urday afternoon at new haven where they trounced the yale bulldogs 22-5 on the home mat the wrestlers played host to indiana in a color ful match that was highlighted by frank winter's hard-fought tri umph over burly john bochnicka in the heavyeiwght division giv ing 25 pounds to the speedy pow erful hoosier who also doubles as the big ten heavyweight boxing champ frank accomplished a seemingly impossible task when he threw bochnicka in the first overtime period the visitor him self was so astonished by this turn of events that he failed to put in an appearance for the sec ond period realizing the futility of attempting to pin the lehigh husky in less time crowd very receptive the bout was a fitting climax to a thrilling evening an evening that found the most receptive le high crowd in years rising to its feet after each bout and giving the brown and white contestant a big hand each and every one of the in vaders seemed to be wrestling in the era of time advantages that era in which the vogue was hold ing on to an opponent and being contented with an easy decision every hoosier was an advocate of the body scissors fondly called the figure four while on top he was satisfied with riding his opponent and stalling to a decision but as soon as he lost the upper hand he became a fierce aggressor and pro vided the life which sparked the meet only men to lose friday night were sheridan barman and whit ney snyder who wrestled men of superior strength and ability elis fall quite easily against the elis the engineers had even smoother sailing drop ping only one bout and sharing a draw losing only in the heavy weight class sheridan's men gave advance notice on the calibre of the fracas to be expected at the perm palestra next saturday when they will attempt to keep the red and blue from capturing their twenty-fourth straight win in a dual meet earlier this year penn sylvania clipped yale 27-5 football teams will go into spring training very shortly and among these are several of the top-ranking football colleges in the country notre dame ohio state stanford georgia georgia tech u c l a northwestern duke boston college pennsylva nia santa clara and holy cross are in this category yale dart mouth and south carolina were the only schools that said defin itely that no spring practice was planned with the army expected to move into lehigh in the early spring the football situation re mains completely in the dark quite a few members of last sea son's team have already gone into service and still more will leave in the near future with the ac tivating of the naval marine and air corps reserves if a brown and white team takes the field in october it will be mainly com posed of seventeen year old boys and others who are not under draft jurisdiction football situation is cloudy the navy department has not yet announced its policy with re gard to athletics in the colleges thomas m buck m e 43 president of the interfrater nity council all dormitory and town men are invited to attend the student activities committee meets this afternoon to decide whether or not dates will be per mitted to live in the fraternity houses and dormitories on satur day evening march 6 the night of the ball the meeting will be held in dean congdon's office and news of the decision will epsilon national honorary journalism society began a campaign to gather in copies of yearbooks from colleges and universities throughout the country the object is to amass a large collection of different yearbooks for reference purposes the national collection spot is in the basement of drown hall on the lehigh campus where prof wallace r biggs grand historian of pi delt has his of fice many
