the 20 add-drop fee will be presented by larry weitzner academic environment committee chairman at the nov 14 forum meeting the resolution was passed without op position at last tuesday's committee meeting which was attended by james wagner registrar two administration representatives and eight faculty mem bers as well as the committee members wagner expressed concern over the rising number of add drops which have run over 3,000 for the last six semesters he also mentioned the strain on ihe provist's office which cannot staff classes efficiently if students constantly are changing courses the university netted 22,680 from add drop fees last year weitzner said the present add-drop policy permits course changes for legitimate reasons which are interpreted by individual ad visors weitzner said faculty members largely ignore the fee because they waive it m 75-80 per cent of the cases he added the fee was recently waived for a year with little effect on the numbers of add drops weitzner said one-third of add drops are made after the initial 10-day period m the beginning of the semester proving that students drop courses for reasons other than to block out early morning classes weitzner said the resolution to drop the add-drop fee is an example of the forum representing its constituency because there is a great deal of griping about the fee weitzner said if passed by the entire forum this month the resolution would eliminate the add-drop fee for the spring 79 semester he said larry weitzner bury the pards is theme for lafayette week events by joanne woolsey bury the pards is the theme of lafayette week activities this year ac cording to john nersesian 80 vice president of the student activities council ( sac and president of the activities spirit association asa lafayette week which begins sunday nov 12 and runs through saturday nov 18 will culminate with a funeral procession from the university to lafayette college before the game he said we want to really psych people up for the game nersesian explained the leaders of all activities at the university and at lafayette have met to discuss plans for the game he said nersesian has been worfcir with john steckbeck < steek director of intramurals to plan tlie week's activities at the university on sunday nov 12 the lehigh-laf ayette women's powderpuff football game will be held to benefit multiple sclerosis nersesian said kickoff will be at 2 p.m m taylor stadium and parking will be available m the centennial ii lot a campus clean-up will take place tuesday nov 14 through thursday nov 16 according to stock a truck will haul away burnable material collected by each living unit on these days he said the material will be used to fuel the freshman bonfire to be held friday nov 17 lafayette week activities will get into full swing on thursday nov is the an nual turkey trot will begin at 4:30 p.m at the lower campus mall between maginnes hall and mart library steek said ap proximately 1,500 runners are expected to enter the race this year including faculty administrators and university staff and students he added the 3.3-mile-course winds around the upper and lower campus roads and ends on the lawn of the university center the event is the largest collegiate ac tivity of its type steel said other schools have similar events but i don't know of any which have a race of this magnitude he explained the winning team of runners from a living unit will be awarded a 35-pound turkey stock said the real reason for holding the turkey trot is to give a living unit the opportunity to have dinner together prior to thanksgiving and ex press gratitude for the things which are often taken for granted he explained other prizes are team trophies medals and shirts stock recognition petition pending by bill kimball jerry miller a resolution for the dean of students office to recognize alpha epsilon pi aepi as soon as possible was submitted by drew byelick 79 president of the interfraternity council ifc at the ifc meeting last wednesday however no vote was taken since a quorum was not present at the meeting according to ifc regulations nine tenths of a quorum has to vote m favor of a resolution m order for it to pass this resolution seemed to receive a favorable reaction from fraternities represented at the meeting according to byelick since the htc is supposed to promote communications between fraternities i feel it is important to have aepi recognized byelick said the ifc cannot recognize aepi until it has been properly recognized by the university the power to recognize aepi is out of my hands and at this point has reached a higher level hershel dorney assistant to the dean of students explained someone m the dean of students office is sitting on it aepi president steve garfinkel 79 said sunday of the fraternity's recognition petition there is no good reason to do so he added garfinkel said he and byelick had discussed the ifc resolution prior to the meeting which garfinkei attended the original request for recognition of aepi which was organized m stevens house m 1974 was made m april gar finkel said and re-submitted this fall they're always busy he said of the university administration the chapter has been expecting word on the petition for some time he said but the university will not give straight answers a meeting concerning aepi 1 * recognition is planned with william quay dean of students preston parr vice president and dean of student affairs and john woltjen university treasurer initially the university did not recognize aepi because it was concerned with me social and financial stability of the fraternity according to quay presently the main concern is over itressia that might be placed on other fraternities as a result of aepi's recognition he added however aepi has been rushing members for the last four years and this has caused to strain on the rushing programs of other fraternities byelick explained university concerns over the impact of a new fraternity m the ifc are absurd phone directory to be reprinted due to omissions by joskph feller the university directory will be reprinted because a computer printout error caused the omission of the local addresses and phone numbers of nee residence halls students george beezer director of publications said those whose addresses and phone numbers were omitted include students living off-campus residents of fraternities and sororities and some gradual students the directory was distributed earlier this month the reprint should be ready by mid-november and will coat approxi mately 3,000 beezer said he said the figure is relatively low because all of the correct pages will be salvaged and reused although the exact cause of the error has not been determined beezer said it oc curred sometime during the procedure m which all student names are taken from a university computer database tape and converted into
