jay yanovok 81 has charged sac with not paying over 700 owed to swank films inc for three films shown this semester the charges came at last wednesday's sac meeting and allege that the council has not paid additional monies due swank after the success of blazing saddles exorcist and a clockwork orange according to the statement yanovok read at the meeting the sac contracted the movies on a flat base rental or a 50-50 split of the gross receipts whichever was greater in order to determine whether more than the base rate was to be paid the sac was supposed to send an audience report to swank carol lewis sales representative for the company said monday yanovok alleged that the reports were not filled out in an interview monday rob rosen thal council president said we've merely been lax m filling out the reports it's partly oversight and partly negligence but not a dishonest attempt to make money on these companies he added according to yanovok s figures the sac grossed 1431.50 on blazing saddles 1269 on exorcist and 1044.50 on a clockwork orange not including any revision for money obtained through movie pass sales the movie rented for 391 75 441 75 and 387.75 and a 50-50 split of the profits the sac paid only the base rental fee thus under the 50-50 agreement yanovok charged that over 700 is owed to swank however both rosenthal and treasurer janet quinn pointed out that 10 movie passes were sold at blazing saddles the gross receipts for the movie not including any possible money owed as a result of the blazing saddles showing the sac owes swank about 330 according to yanovok's figures which were corroborated by quinn monday according to lewis to the best of my knowledge audience reports are stmt along with the company's bill about the time the film is shipped however he has never seen an audience nor received a complaint from the company about the amount of money paid for the films if we were doing something wrong they'd tell us about it he added also lewis said that swank does not send out checkers to count audiences once m a while a producer like columbia universal or warner brothers will send somebody out she said but those com panies own the film swank leases it from them then rents the film we're basing our payments on people's honesty they can be dishonest and we'll never know she said joint hahnemann program seven-year plan passed by mark voder the proposal for a seven-year joint program between the university and hahnemann medical school was unanimously passed by the educational policy committee i edpol last week university administrators recommended the proposal after consideration of the new program m addition recruiting has begun for next year's class for the program i view it ( the seven-year program as a change for the better nancy fulford university health professions coordinator said this will require an additional academic year at the university the students will have on the whole lighter course loads and two summers without classes fulford said a student will enroll for one summer to take organic chemistry and have tbe other two summers free in this time he can obtain valuable hospital experience or earn money to offset the cost of schooling she added the program also should result m higher medical couege admissions test mcat scores fulford explained m three years at the university candidates will receive a better background m chemistry and biology through advanced courses they will be better prepared fcr the technical aspects of the mcats and the medical school routine m general even if not accepted to hahnemann she added students will be m phase for programs at any of the state's otlier six medical schools including temple pittsburgh and hershey hahnemann has lifted its ten candidate limit for the university fulford said although we have nothing m writing hahnemann has made a verbal com mitment to accept more than ten of them under the six-year program because of the open year caused by the new program present freshmen will be given the option of waiting an additional year before applying to hahnemann sophomores will only be given the option if a large percentage of the freshmen take their seven-year option fulford said although the present sophomores may not receive this option many are already settled into the six-year program and will apply this spring anyway students when com pleted the stnictura i steel for the six-story building is at place il is hoped the structure will he enclosed before the dead of winter trustees may rule on add-drop fee by jim donahue the board of trustees will be the final arbiters of the add-drop question if a resolution which may be presented at wednesday's forum meeting is passed at its last meeting the forum voted to dispose of the add-drop fee despite ad monitions from administrators that the matter was not within the forum's jurisdiction supporters of the resolution said the forum has policy-making power m the area of registration administrators claimed the fee was a budgetary matter an area m which the forum has no power administrators and forum leaders have met privately within the last few weeks to seek a resolution to the conflict they may have found one m that the add-drop fee is listed m the university's priorities rules and regulations pr&r handbook ac cording to mike silverman 79 forum vice-chairman only the trustees can remove a regulation m pr&r although the administration faculty or forum can petition to have a rule removed or in cluded he explained the new resolution would be aimed at the legitimization of the resolution to waive the fee rather than at face-saving for thc administration or forum silverman said the move would sidestep the issue of the limits of forum authority that question was hotly debated at the last forum meeting silverman would not comment on why no one brought up the pr&r matter at that time in other business tbe forum also may take action
