white squad is on the loose trying to evade two tackier the white team won the game 22-0 food service seeks quality low cost by charlotte lohrenz while no one seems willing to tell students how much money is actually involved m the dining service for the university the self-supporting service has enough funding to feed 2,000 boarding students and manage the university center and rathbone dining halls the snack bar and the asa packer dining room most of that money flows through the hands of the m.w wood co which has run the dining service for the university for at least 22 years according to edward evers director of food services wood is contracted to run the service on a management fee basis according to john woltjen university treasurer the university pays wood x number of dollars for the management he said and m addition pays the service dollar for dollar for the coat of personnel and food purchases woltjen however would not quote the x number of dollars involved m the management fee because it ia part of the relationship between wood and the university woltjen added that be believes the fee charged by wood a privately owned business is less than other services would charge however the contract to manage the dining service was not put up for bids when it was renewed last year woltjen said he thinks the bid relation ship is not necessarily the best relationship m the food business on the other hand woltjen stressed that there are excellent relations between lehigh university and mw wood and said it is important that wood is a part of the family he added that there is a pretty good relationship with wilbur blew vice president of wood who was the first manager of the university's account and has had three children attend the university it has been easy to maintain communication because of die dose relationship woltjen noted in addition woltjen said he felt that the number of facilities m the area which employ wood is a strong testimony to successful year for sac in spite of trial fling issues by jill paul the student activities council sac had a successful year despite several problems according to rob rosenthal sac president this year's accomplishments include the atlanta rhythm section and elvis costello concerts the broadway play chicago four coffeehouses and speakers allen funt and chris miller the sac showed 25 movies co sponsored a coffeehouse and folk festival with the catacombs and ran the freshman orientation program and activities in addition we gave a lot of money to other organizations on campus who came to us for money rosenthal said these groups included the arabic gub the water polo club and the rugby team the sac had problems with personnel the brown and white and the yanavok impeachment rosenthal said several positions had to be filled m mid year the sorority representative left to play volleyball the lecture chairman took a semester abroad the freshman repre sentative was hospitalized and the publicity chairman was impeached rosenthal said that inaccuracies were the cause of problems with the brown and david lewis forum head runs unopposed in election by steve samuelson david lewis chairman of the modern foreign languages department was unopposed m his election as chairman of forum x last saturday the election took place during a three-hour joint session of forum ix and forum x other forum x leaders elected saturday were caryn gorbunoff 80 as vice chairman and ruth kossin 80 as secretary-treasurer both were also unopposed m their elections leonard wenzel forum ix chairman and chairman of tbe chemical engineering department said that although he would have been happier if they the elections were contested he is certain that the newly elected leaders are the best group of officers one could have had he added that the people who will be running forum x are very good people the forum also elected its repre sentatives to the board of trustees at saturday's session phyllis errico 81 and joe rubin 81 will represent the students while hugh fleaher chaplain and robert johnson chairman of the civil engineering department will represent the faculty in other business the forum passed two separate resolutions to direct the ad missions report of the academic environ ment committee to the admissions office heard the preliminary report of the forum's structure and purpose com mittee and elected the officers of its four standing committees the structure and purpose committee which was formed in february 1979 to study the existence and effectiveness of the forum at the request of forum ix chairman wenzel reported on its progress to date the committee will give its final report and suggestions for structural change to the forum next year aurora de la cruz 81 was elected chairman of forum x's student life com mittee and dean updike associate professor of mechanical engineering was re-elected as vice chairman the cultural affairs subcommittee of student life is currently planning an irish folk festival for next spring leading the administration committee will be john dorf 81 david amidon lecturer in urban studies will serve as vice chairman the committee will be taking a stronger stance on affirmative action next year according to outgoing chairman pat hauserman 79 edward morgan assistant professor of government was elected chairman of the academic environment committee and andy weiss 81 was elected vice chair man the committee will be split into at least six subcommittees the most active of which will be academic regulation curriculum and admissions according to morgan heading the priorities planning and development committee will be robert barnes professor of philosophy vice out of control saw pholo by morrison meanwhile on the hill that same af ternoon it was the crowd that was trying ta evade the participants during greek week's climactic bed race several times the crowd had to be d for the hilte to avoid being a hes casualty see sac page 4
