renewal of coach's pact john whitehead head coach of the university football team accepted a new three-year contract tuesday the an nouncement was made by preston parr vice president of student affairs and athletic director william leckonby whitehead currently on the last year of a two-year contract said of the new contract it is a vote of confidence from the administration and naturally i feel good about it he also said this will be good for my assistants because it will give them three more years of security whitehead a graduate of east stroudsburg state college came to lehigh as an assistant coach in 1967 he became head coach in january 1976 following the resignation of fred dunlap who became head coach at colgate s.o.s a group of engineers chose to express their opinion of the university in a rather cryptic manner this morse message was hung outside packard laboratory sunday night strict safety measures set for football contest by charlotte lohrenz extensive precautionary measures will be taken to ensure safety of property and people at the lehigh-lafayette game this weekend according to dean of students william quay the safety measures will be coordinated by the dean of students of fice the measures include hiring photographers to record students par ticipating in violence so that positive identifications can be made and punitive action taken quay said quay explained he is concerned this will be a more violent game than last year's his fears are echoed by student mem bers of the lehigh-lafayette committee formed by the dean of students from both schools to deal with security at the game james poulin 79 committee member and residence halls council president said he is worried about violence at this year's game because the freshman class appears to be very rowdy and in terested in keeping traditions ~ gail price 79 student activities council vice president said 600 freshmen attended the freshman class meeting tuesday when 100 to 150 usually attend twenty-five members of the bethlehem police force will be at the game to control the crowd eject disorderly students and make arrests quay said according to quay the police will probably to carrying mace last year mace was carried but not used guards from pinkerton security agency will confiscate liquor at the entrances and deny entrance to drunk or disorderly ticket-holders quay said for the second year student proctors are being used this year the university is providing 25 brothers from beta theta pi to act as ushers and guards and lafayette is sending 15 students quay reported proctors are to observe the crowd and encourage spectators to behave properly he said if someone refuses to correct their behavior student guards are instructed to report to the police he noted members of the dean of students office will be on the sidelines and in the stands according to price and will be taking pictures of students misbehaving so positive identification can be made william quay court waives will stipulation of brodhead the university has received permission from northampton county court to use funds from the sale of properties acquired in the alfred brodhead will for projects other than those stipulated in the will brodhead was a university alumnus the will filed in 1938 gave 51 properties to the university with the stipulation that funds from the sale of any of these properties be used to upgrade the other brodhead properties a university petition to waive the stipulation was accepted nov 10 by president judge clinton palmer the judicial order was not released until this week liowever in releasing the university from the investment restrictions palmer ordered only that proceeds from any property sales must be added to a special brodhead endowment account
