john a thurn m e 43 after the initiation the group held a dinner meeting at the phi gamma delta house upon the recommendation of a committee headed by philip h powers jr m e 43 it was de cided to employ the usual point system for elections in february as has been used in the past credits earned during the summer will be given one-half the consid eration as if they were earned dur ing the regular session a committee was formed to look into the possibility of holding an all-university convocation when important points must be brought up before the students the chair man of the committee is lynn c bartlett arts 43 and the members are william c walker ch e 43 peters robert w pugh chem 43 and parr at a recent meeting of o d x the athletic awards proposal was discussed and it was felt that not enough emphasis was placed upon club sports a committee appoint ed by samuel j davy e e 43 president with robert c boston ch e 43 acting as chairman to investigate an awards athletic sys tem for all sports includes schaef fer swayne george h ried arts 43 and david h schaper c.e 43 8 new men inducted by senior society vincent j pat pazzetti 12 lehigh's only all-american will be the feature speaker tonight at the muhlenberg rally which will start at 7:20 in grace hall the rally sponsored by the senior class will also feature 12 girl cheerleaders from cedar crest and moravian they will lead sev eral lehigh yells in addition to pazzetti head coach george hoban 15 and captain bernard w deehan bus 43 will speak pazzetti himself was captain of the lehigh squad in 1912 and served as assistant coach from 1913 to 1927 parents invited to rally the lehigh band will play dur ing the rally and if possible two old lehigh songs the touchdown song and the victory song will be revived free cigarettes will be distributed to those attend ing charles m norlin met e chairman of the senior rally com mittee has invited all students to bring visiting parents to the rally the rally will be the effort of the senior class to capture the walter r okeson trophy which is given annually to the class which sponsors the best rally members of the committee in addition to norlin are joseph c gobuzda i e david h schaper c e and robert w pugh chem about 300 fathers of lehigh stu dents will visit the campus sat urday for the university's third annual dad's day as in previous years the fathers will have an opportunity to see their sons in action in their sat urday morning classes and will at tend the lehigh-muhlenberg grid clash in the afternoon the parents will also attend a dad's day buffet luncheon from 12:15 to 1:15 p m in grace hall treasurer walter okeson and head football coach george hoban will give ten minute talks at this function which will also include songs cheers and music by the collegians mrs marleah bowker arcadia office will sell up to 50 tickets until saturday noon any unsold admissions out of the 50 will be offered for sale at the door a committee headed by thomas buck m e 43 and including preston parr ch e 43 robert kramer ch e 43 and samuel davy m e 43 took charge of all dad's day arrangements 300 fathers expected for 3rd dad's day by ralph bartlett as engineers hunt no 4 opponents confident our team is composed largely of seniors who have never been defeated by a lehigh club and they want to win again said coach alvin doggie julian of the muhlenberg mules in prepara tion for the forthcoming encounter saturday at taylor stadium the engineers have not defeated the mules since 1396 when they romp ed over the allentown club 26-6 however lehigh holds a decided edge in the series dating back to 1907 winning 20 games to the mules 11 as in past years the game will be the feature attraction of the traditional dad's day about 250 fathers are expected to witness the encounter the muhlenberg-le high game is one of the oldest tra ditions in the lehigh valley and a large turnout is expected from bethlehem and allentown towns people it is also muhlenberg's houseparty weekend mules record good to date the mules have a very impressive record at least on pa per they have rolled up 100 points to their opponents 41 and have lost only one game in six starts however they have played only one formidable opponent manhattan and that was their one defeat a 27-7 pasting in their first game they beat one of the poorest elevens put out by mora vian in years by one touchdown in a sloppy contest they have also registered wins over gettysburg lebanon valley ursinus and dick inson on the other hand the engin eers with their best team since 1936 will be seeking their fourth consecutive win the team has been drilling hard all week and al though the underdog in the allen town morning call are pre dicted to win in most circles the starting lineup for the engineers will probably be just about the same as in the previous games with bernie deehan calling the signals stan szymakowski at full vince moravec at one half and either herb shoener or harry arant at the other tackle posts uncertain dick shafer will be at the pivot post claude kurtz and walt me serve will be at the guard posi tions and don brownlee and hal shoener will man the flanks the tackle positions are uncertain now that russ jones and dick johnson have returned from the injured list however harry clarke is certain to start at one of the tackle slots and gene gott who started last week's game will see plenty of action the mules have been drilling hard all week and doggie and his boys realize that it is probably their toughest game of the season their practice sessions have been devoted mainly to running through plays against the engineers 5-3 2-1 defense they plan to flip a lot of aerials with bud bossick pete gorgone and tony annecharico doing the tossing of 1941 fraternity men received 389 dorm men 213 town men 185 and inde pendents alpha town house and cosmopolitan club 14 engineers got 563 business men 135 arts men 84 and general college 19 the next semester he said we shall plan to carry on school work with no change in present plans but the summer semester will constitute a transition period between what we are now doing continued on page 4 he said he knows that no change is contemplated in the status of men in v-l v-5 and v-7 pro grams and that the position of men in the enlisted reserve corps is uncertain president clement c williams reported on recent meetings in philadelphia of the association of american colleges and the amer ican council of educators with emphasis on the future war plans of american colleges action was taken by the com mittee on educational policy on the physical education require ment of men enrolled in the band in all future registrations all band men will be required to register for p e during the drill season no work-out is necessary but in the spring and summer semesters three hours per week is the mini mum requirement band men to take p e as the revised calendar stands for next year the fall semester will begin on oct 21 the summer semester ending on oct 13 the calendar tentative because of the unknown status of the university this time next year calls for classes through jan 1 the sched lehigh university c-o-r-r-e-c-t-i-o-n dean congdon has pointed out that the headline officer school denied to erc at the top of the third column of the first page of the last issue of the brown and white is quite inaccurate it is to be hoped that every student who saw the head also read the story for the third and fourth paragraphs state what is really the case "... enlisted reservists who are not in advanced rotc will be sent to the nearest replacement center when ordered to active duty when they have completed the normal course of training there d 7 they are qualified and se lected they will be ordered to the proper offi cer candidate schools in other words an enlisted reservist has a good chance to get an o c school but the mere fact that he is a reservist does not guarantee his being eventually placed in such a school
