lehigh gridders seek second straight win by ralph bartlett the lehigh gridders will try to extend their victory streak to two straight saturday at 2 o'clock when the scarlet of rutgers in vade taylor stadium if the en gineers win they will gain the first leg in the middle three title last year at istew brunswick rutgers won a 16-6 decision in a hard fought game after playing a scoreless first half the scarlet reserves overpowered the tired brown and white gridders and scored enough points for a decisive win however in the lehigh-rut gers series which dates back to 1884 the engineers have been vic torious 19 times while the scarlet has won 18 games only one game has resulted in a tie the engineers came out of the p m c game without an injury but dick johnson is still on the injured list along with stan brown who was injured in the yale game and bill emmerick who has a bad shoulder harry arant threw a scare into the le high mentors when he injured his leg at practice wednesday how ever x-rays revealed the bones still intact has won two tied one to date rutgers has a record of two wins and one loss in their first game they beat vermont 27 20 the following saturday clark shaughnessy's university of mary land team beat them 27-13 last week the scarlet beat a favored bucknell team on a muddy field 9-7 the rutgers backfield is a vet eran one hal conners who ran 98 yards on the opening kickoff against maryland will start at left half and the veteran ferd ratti will probably start at right half nick dennis will call the signals and do the blocking and charley dukaukas a 168-pound fullback will do the plunging emil porter will man the left flank and sopho more hal heritage will be at right end gil greenberg and len han sen will be at tackle and ernie nedvins and ken palmer arts 43 president of le high chapter of pi delta epsilon national journalism fraternity by robert e laramy 96 associate director of admissions mr laramy a member of the original staff which was composed of students of the classes of 94 95 and 96 gave the autographed pic ture to pi delta epsilon at its initiation dinner held monday mr laramy was initiated into the society as an honorary tickets to the various living groups for the house party football game was an nounced by robert p whip ple chem 43 yesterday according to the new system a freshman representative from each fraternity and dorm section will report at 7:30 p.m monday oct 26 to the arcadia office in drown hall at this time he will submit an envel ope with the name of the liv ing group plainly printed on the outside and the number of tickets desired indicated on the inside a lottery will then be held and the order for distribution determined on tuesday after noon the tickets will be called for by the freshman represen tative by reporting to eb caraway business manager of the athletic department in his office in taylor gym the tickets must be paid for at the time they are handed out joint dance is set for oct 31 by roy margolies youth and ability together create byrne's popularity a man who is asked by leopold stokowski to join the philadelphia symphony orchestra must play a pretty fair horn a man possessed of absolute pitch the ability to give the name on the musical scale of any tone is not easy to find that a youngster 24 years old should lead a major name band is unique but when all these men are one and the same the boy must be phenomenal and bobby byrne for that's who this young man is is an unusual fellow in his own right and has had town council makes revision chairman of the bobby byrne is going to bring his band here on the night of oct 30 to play in grace hall for the senior ball a highlight of fall houseparty that the band is a na tionally famous organization only three years after its organization in the fall of 1939 is due in a great measure to bobby's painstaking drilling and sensitive ear for tones wendell will play as a secondary band art wen dell and his orchestra have been signed and will probably play on the gym floor of grace hall with bobby byrne on the drill floor william c kirschner chem 43 o'connor will play at town-dorm event tom o'connor and his orches tra will play at the annual town dorm dance on saturday oct 31 from 9-1 o'clock on the upper floor of grace hall announced bernard j egan met e 44 chairman of the dance committee instead of having separate af fairs as the fraternities do on sat urday night of houseparty the town and dormitory councils tra ditionally get together and have their dance at grace hall like the fraternity dances the town-dorm dance is open to everyone and this year the affair will definitely be informal not ordinary college band the o'connor outfit is from the university of pennsylvania and is not the ordinary collegiate band featured with the band is a sax man who played for some time with mai hallett in addition o'connor had the distinction of playing with recently deceased bunny berigan famous trum peter rarely seen at lehigh o'connor will play the vibes better known as the vibraharp this instrument resembles a xylophone but is con trolled electrically it is made of metal rather than wood the town council has revised its sections and their locations this move was found to be neces sary due to a change in concen tration of students section l is now the alpha lambda omega fraternity in to the athletic committee of arcadia the next meeting of the society will be at 6:30 o'clock on wed nesday nov 11 at the chi psi lodge dad's day will be nov 7 the third annual dad's day will be held dinner and an evening program for the enter tainment of the dads as has been the custom for the past two years the fathers will have an opportunity to visit with their sons in classes on saturday morning the noon meal is being planned at lamberton hall and the price will be 75 cents per person the meal starts at 12:45 p m and music and two ten-minute speak ers are on the tentative program m & c society holds competition competitors for mustard and cheese dramatic society held the first meeting of the semester last tuesday new men trying out for acting parts read plays for albert rights instructor of eng lish and dramatics and adviser of m and c and the men trying out for stage crew talked with pres ident william c kirschner chem 43 kirschner stated that a regular dinner meeting of mustard and cheese was scheduled for last wednesday but the long overdue scripts being considered for the fall production did not arrive and no meeting was called but the act ing tryouts will be held next thursday at 4 p m in the mustard and cheese room drown hall and the stage crew will meet tues day oct 27 at 4 p m in the mus tard and cheese room rutgers to visit taylor field brown & white lehigh university an invitation — as a part of its program of fostering co-operation between var ious student organizations the brown and white hereby extends an invitation to all the student and faculty members of arcadia omicron delta kappa including those pledges recently tapped cyanide and the board of publications to attend an open night monday evening oct 26 in the new brown and white quarters in the basement of drown hall featured on the program will be the showing of the official movies of lehigh's recent football games a discussion of the brown and white's new departmental set-up — a development attracting national attention — and the serving of ample refreshments as well as the distribution of cigars the evening's activities will begin at 8 o'clock
