brothers by jeff bloom it's really hard to walk into that room and realize he's not going to be there friday joe tarulli 76 attended the funeral of his late delta phi pledge brother roommate and close friend mitch fishkin i was crying friday i'm not ashamed of it he said all delta phi brothers and pledges at tended the funeral paying their last respects to one of the best liked guys in the house scott detar the fraternity's president says mitch was an average student who liked to have fun he described mitch as a dare-devil type person who was well liked by everybody detar says he was the type to feel he could pull off the great escape from the brothers by jumping from the car tom murphy 76 mitch's other roommate says he lost his best friend sunday murphy helped mitch's brother remove personal belongings from the room but even though mitch and his belongings are no longer there his memory lingers on it's a terrible feeling to sit in the room and look at his empty desk murphy says outgoing easy to talk to and active — that's how mitch's friends described him i still can't believe he's gone it's hard to comprehend why murphy said tarulli says there are no words to explain it you just feel like going away detar says he hopes mitch's death will bring the house closer together . we have to rebuild a lot no kidnapping whatsoever is delta phi's official policy according to detar pledges are told if you're going to kidnap a brother don't leave him show him a good time wednesday after delta phi pledges failed in an attempt to tie up a brother and leave him on the steps of another frater nity a group of brothers decided to counter by tying up a pledge taking him to saucon valley and forcing him to walk back mitch was the only pledge around tarulli says mitch was the type who would enjoy tempting the brotherhood to take him when it comes time to initiate the pledges into the delta phi brotherhood mitch fishkin will probably be included if b 8 w photo by owl can't relieve it tom murphy left and joe tarulli were the roommates of the late mitch fishkin neither can believe what has happened and both find it difficult to sit in their room without their minds wandering back to him delta phi students exonerated from any criminal charges by martin baron no criminal charges will be filed in connection with the death of university sophomore mitch fishkin announced northampton county dist atty charles spaziani friday after conducting an investigation into the death of mitch fishkin . we find that there is no basis to bring any criminal charges spaziani said the activities of the persons involved show some immature judgment but there is no criminal responsibility for the tragic death of a fine young man fishkin 19 of flemington r 1 n.j died early thursday morning in st luke's hospital of multiple head injuries in cluding severe fractures of the skull spaziani said the decision not to file criminal charges was made after a complete investigation by the lower saucon township police and the district attorney's office lower saucon township patrolman gary hahn the policeman who arrived at the scene of the accident met with spaziani thursday afternoon hahn and asst northampton county detective edward s fluck talked with delta phi members for almost two hours later in the afternoon the investigation revealed no evidence state education group attacks intern program by george bittlingmayer the teaching intern program of lehigh's school of education is under fire from the pennsylvania state education association psea the state's largest teacher organization john a stoops dean of the school of education said the psea has made it more difficult to place our interns by encouraging its local bargaining units to try to get a clause in their contracts prohibiting intern employment programs which include teaching in ternships are presently in effect at five pennsylvania colleges and account for a small percentage of the teachers certified each year lehigh interns teach one year under the limited supervision of the school of education following a pre-intern program which according to stoops is in almost every case . as intense as that which has been required for teacher certification he said that although the interns are qualified for teaching certificates cer tification means their effective removal from the program stoops said that we like to keep control of the student during the year william a cornell assistant executive director for professional development of the psea said that in addition to the negotiations which locals are conducting on the matter his group will attempt to have legislation passed making it illegal for anyone not certified or not under the direct supervision of a certified teacher to conduct a class the university's authority over interns should be terminated and substituted with a program in which interns work under the direction of a teacher said cornell a qualified certified teacher should be in charge of a class teachers won't stand for colleges telling them what to do he ad ded cornell said the psea does not oppose internships or the lehigh intern program we object to the use of an uncertified program what we're against is that a person who calls himself an intern can take a job away from a certified teacher he said cornell contended that an uncertified person in charge of a class is also in violation of the law although no interns have been prosecuted lehigh interns teaching without direct supervision by certified teachers are para professionals and according to.the state attorney general are subject to arrest said cornell this charge was disputed by alice d rinehart assistant professor of education and director of the secondary teacher intern program at lehigh who said that the intern certificate has been declared valid by the state board of education fishkin service hubert flesher university chaplain has announced that a memorial service for mitchell fishkin will be held at noon friday in the brith-sholom temple packard and brodhead avenues rabbi joel chernikoff will conduct the service the public is invited canned heat concert the student activities council will present canned heat in concert at 8 p.m friday sept 21 in grace hall proceeds will be used to finance future groups see article page 9 first meeting of all-u forum well attended by beth troy progress reports and organizational matters were the main business at yesterday's well-attended first session of forum iv university provost albert c zet tlemoyer said that the administration representatives position on the law school will be very favorable when they report to a trustees committee next wednesday about the possibility of establishing a law school the ad see
