gridders trounced lafayette 45-13 in the 109th meeting between the two schools before more than 10,000 fans the victory gave lehigh a share of the lambert cup with delaware each team ended up with 76 points with both teams receiving four first place votes lehigh quarterback kim mcquilken who won the most valuable player trophy for the second straight year left little doubt about the engineer offense as he completed 17 of 26 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns this along with reserve quarterback joe alleva s 86 aerial yards set a new passing yardage record for the engineers freshman sensation rod gardner ran wild from his tailback position scoring two touchdowns and netting 141 yards in 27 carries tight end bill schlegel grabbed six passes for 112 yards and two touch downs giving him a lehigh season record of 68 catches and a career total of 139 the lehigh offensive line also played superbly opening huge holes for gardner and protecting mcquilken from the pard's defensive rush the lehigh defense turned in another outstanding day dropping pard quar terback mark jones six times and scoring on a blocked punt they also picked off two passes and recovered two fumbles not to been representative of the tastes of lehigh students said stephen klasko 74 general manager of the lehigh radio network klasko said that jim shanley 76 student activities council sac concert chairman is perpetrating concerts ap pealing to himself and his friends however such music is not pleasing to the majority of students klasko said the way the present meetings are conducted is a bad way to run something that is for everyone under the present system of choosing groups the concert committee meetings are open to everyone and anyone is eligible to vote klasko said although meetings are open to everyone no publicity was given to the meeting in which the actual vote occurred in addition klasko noted that even though he signed his name to the concert mailing list he never received a notice saying there would be a meeting block voting is not uncommon klasko said and this results in the tastes of lehigh students not truly being represented as an example klasko cited the concert committee establish a coed action board cab to actively recruit women for leadership positions on cam pus was made at the nov 8 meeting of the coed life subcommittee by armand olivetti 74 olivetti made the recommendation after having spoken with dean hurley who said she would like to see the women's caucus revitalized and more women becoming involved we are looking for a committee that will open up leadership positions for women where there are no leadership positions presently and we're looking for a committee that will generate interest for involvement where leadership positions are presently open to women i wanted to construct something along the lines of the affirmative action committee the state may give private colleges direct subsidies by tom anew alt in an effort to resolve the present fiscal crisis of pennsylvania's private colleges the pennsylvania state education department is studying a plan to provide direct subsidies to private institutions under the provisions of the 20 million program a subsidy of 600 would be given to private schools for each student enrolled receiving state aid the subsidy is one third of the amount currently given to state-related institutions elmer glick university treasurer said he hoped that such aid to private colleges would help keep lehigh operating in the black glick said that the particular provisions and figures of the proposal are unknown as yet but added that he was glad that such recognition had been given to the problem of financing higher education at private institutions i hope this plan will be helpful to both students and colleges he said when asked if the plan would slow down lehigh's spiraling tuition costs glock said it might although he added that the present tuition increases posed no threat to the
