submitted to him imply abuses in the apprentice teaching program gorsky also stated that the abuses do not characterize the entire program or the relationship between most apprentices and master teachers because the office of secretary is non administrative because the council is currently without a chairman and because members at a fall meeting felt unable to elect a new or temporary chairman i have been unable to enforce the spirit or letter of the university forum regulations in apprentice teaching my duty is to gather data and report in formation i have asked dr zettlemoyer in the report i am submitting to him to discourage isolated abuses the forum regulations referred to by gorsky state the master teacher will colon says forum made effort to keep ottervik report secret by peter menard according to a report submitted monday to the forum by the administration committee the forum did take all reasonable precautions to assure its deliberations and recommendations remained confidential in the recent matter regarding news leaks of the report concerning filling the post of vice president for planning the four man committee was formed to investigate the effectiveness of attempts to keep such matters confidential the report went on to say that because the precautions taken in this instance were not fully effective it is reasonable to insist that future forums be even more vigilant in meeting their commitment to con fidentiality of this type of consultation it was also announced that a letter of apology will be sent to the trustees a report was submitted by the com munications committee concerning the role of lehigh horizons it was determined by the committee that the present publication policy restricts the role that horizons can play in the university community the report also states that horizons is intended as a periodical publication devoted chiefly to features concerning various aspects of the university and that this periodical nature makes adequate coverage of news items difficult and at times impossible one need cited in the report is for ex tensive in depth coverage of complex issues and another is for a medium in which frankly partisan critical attitudes can be adequately presented the committee concluded that it believes that horizons makes a genuine contribution to the lehigh scene but adds the contributions it makes leaves an important need unmet it then presented a resolution urging the administration to either provide a medium for in depth articles or else to extend the present role of lehigh horizons by some means to include such articles s in other business a motion recom mending among other things that funding for the administrative costs of the gryphon tutorial program be im plemented and that the feasibility of providing funding for tutorial costs associated with this program be in vestigated as the program is set up now the gryphons are not receiving any money from the university the legal action committee submitted a resolution that was passed its major recommendations were that members of the lehigh community be made aware of the work of this organization through appropriate campus compared with 1000 sold for the jo-jo gunne concert linder explained that chapin's style of music and a number of on-campus promotion techniques should draw a large audience from the university he said that he hopes to give away free albums to living groups and complimentary tickets to social chairmen selling the most tickets there will be no comparison between bsw photo by flanagan samuel h missimer effect of language rule discussed by missimer by stanley palmer i do not see the language requirement proposals affecting admissions said samuel missimer director of admissions proposed new language requirements will either lower or eliminate the amount of hours in a foreign language required of a liberal arts student missimer said that he didn't think admissions should deal with the language problem i think the decision of the language requirement should be left to the faculty it is our responsibility to interpret whatever they come up with to the prospective student he said missimer added that in dealing with prospective freshmen the complaint of too many hours of a foreign language is not a major consideration incoming freshmen don't say much about the language requirement because they are afraid we might think ill of them he said missimer pointed out that more com plaints about the language requirement are received from female students and seniors than anyone else the interesting thing about the language requirement is that the seniors objected more to it than incoming freshmen he said he added that the incoming freshmen have no idea what taking a foreign language at lehigh is like he noted that the diversity of prospective college students makes the language requirement a relatively unimportant factor students might want to come to a college that keeps standards high but on the other hand students might want to go to a place that has more freedom of choice he said missimer added that he didn't think there would be an increase in liberal arts students because of a revised language requirement most students have a pretty good idea of what career they want to go into if the student really wants to go into business he's not going to switch out of that unless his career plans change missimer said see rationing page 5 see harry chapin page 4 see apprentice page 5 easterns preview a special four-page insert on the eastern
