an nounced that the winner of the 1974 pulitzer prize for investigative reporting is george beezer editor of lehigh horizons specifically horizon's exclusive in terview with ms w deming lewis was the prize clincher after some rigorous questioning by beezer the university's - first lady revealed her husband's favorite meals he's absolutely crazy about sloppy joes ms lewis said beezer said the revelation of the president's favorite dishes was only a small part of the real investigative reporting that went into the story get ting those recipes used all the in vestigative skills i have he added ms lewis told beezer that she pur chases her meat from the same company from which the university dining service buys its mystery meat beezer the former editor of the philadelphia inquirer's tv time magazine is taking the honor m stride he said if you think this is investigative reporting you haven't seen anything yet in the next issue of horizons for example beezer is planning to investigate the linderman library he's having staff reporter jeff brindle write the lead story listing all 400 new books m the library brindle who once workd for jack an derson and les whitten said i wish jack and les could see me now by woody allen lewis impeached the board of trustees yesterday voted to impeach university president w dem ing lewis lewis will now be tried by the forum and if two-thirds of the full membership finds him guilty he will be removed from office m favor of a new president to be chosen by the trustees the bill of impeachment passed unanimously by the trustees at a meeting presided over by the bartender at the hotel bethlehem accuses lewis of five of fenses accepting 100,000 from a highway lobby to influence a federal judge deciding whether or not to proceed with the con struction of 1-78 approving the burglary of andrew weintraub's dentist's office m an effort to find whether weintraub's position on fluoridation could be used as grounds for not granting him tenure m the absence of other reasons using university funds to construct a private bungalow with a pool and sauna m saucon valley authorizing the payment of 15,000 m hush money to prof charles vihon when vihon threatened to make his knowledge of these scandals public — obstructing the trustees special committee on impeachment m its attempt to investigate the matters this charge includes a number of counts of failing to provide the committee with requested evidence and of submitting doctored evidence at other times the impeachment of lewis culminates a year m which information about what lewis press agent george beezer initially termed a third-rate thing slowly came out m a series of spectacular revelations the trustees committee was originally established merely to investigate the irregularieies associated with a letter written by director of community relations james harper regarding 1-78 when harper one of the many bright young men brought into the university by lewis was this time that the president's counsel eric ottervik decided to spill all that he knew neatly attired m horn-rimmed glasses and a conservative business suit ottervik impressed the trustee committee with his ability to recall the minutest facts and details about the i 78 affair though he couldn't directly implicate the president m the taking of the 100,000 ottervik described how the money was stored m the safe of treasurer elmer glick he also described for the committee how he worked with the president's closest advisors albert zettlemoyer and preston parr to cover up the bribe ottervik described an important meeting between him and lewis when ottervik told the president the complete story i told him there was a cancer on the presidency and that zettlemoyer parr and i were m danger of being found out he told me not to worry ottervik testified ottervik also told the committee that vihon had been asked for legal advice concerning 1-78 but afterwards began making demands for money assured that vihon would leave the university said ottervik a succession of bright young men followed ottervik to the stand and ad mitted complicity m a number of minor matters associated with the growing scandal h joris rosse admitted giving lewis money budgeted to his office for his w deming lewis u.s congress accepts rich boig's bill of rights by r u mentle a stunning legal precedent was established yesterday when both the united states senate and the house of representatives voted overwhelmingly to substitute rich boig's bill of rights for the present bill of rights written by james madison rich conway argued the case for the bill m a hastily called joint session of congress with his typical forum eloquence conway said rich boig has worked all year on his bill of rights i think he deserves to be rewarded by the entire nation the historic decision by congress is the culmination of an arduous struggle by boig who saw his bill returned to sub committee a record 64 times until student life committee chairman armand olivetti agreed to use his influence m the senate to push boig's bill through i just wanted to get boig off my back olivetti said according to boig the real hurdle m the senate to overcome was sam ervin d n.c who said 1 . 1 . d-d-don't see any need to-to change this d-d-document which we have used for almost t-two centuries we move slow m north carolina and m don't see any need for the country to move any faster nevertheless m an intensive two-hour long session boig was able to persuade ervin that his bill of rights was superior to that of madison who at the time of writing was suffering from head injuries incurred during the revolutionary war several supreme court justices objected to the change claiming it would be too difficult to learn the to get him out of there u gryphon causes arrest of campbell by keenan bridgeport clarence campbell dean of residence was arrested by the bethlehem police today for possession of marijuana and other dangerous drugs m his office m rathbone hall police said campbell was arrested after an informant a university gryphon who was under campbell's jurisdiction telephoned police and alleged that camp bell was getting high m his office regularly campbell was arraigned before nor thampton county justice of the peace john gombosi and was released on 100 bail after david amidon a lecturer m urban studies put his wife up for bail campbell refused to comment to reporters but the brown and white has learned from a reliable source that campbell admitted having smoked my share of pot during arraignment gombosi reprimanded campbell and reminded him of the difference between smoking pot and drinking the identity of the gryphon remained anonymous but police said the gryphon placed the call because he felt it was my obligation part of my job campbell who has been dean of residence for eight years has also authored several poetry books his latest was titled my share of pot the title being
