being an honest decent guy in every way except he's wrong in everything asked whether nixon should resign proxmire said no if he's not guilty he shouldn't resign and if he is he should be impeached one of the main targets of proxmire's speech was the armed services branch of the government he said that we now have one-sixth as many people in the ar med forces as we had in world wrfr ii adding that we have more generals and admirals than we had at the height of world war ii another area of excess military spen ding cited by proxmire was the billions of dollars spent on aircraft carriers an amount that totaled to more than we spent last year for all the federal aid to elementary and secondary education in the entire country one of the things needed to provide reform in governmental positions and only one had worked her way to the top the rest happened to be the boss wife or in some similar position foreign aid the intelligence budget the central intelligence agency public works the space program housing program and health care were also used as examples of extravagant government spending campaign spending and contributions were also mentioned there is very serious corruption in our campaign spending proxmire said adding that the large contributions by organizations amount to contrived and concealed bribes he also said that you do not bribe a senator anymore you contribute 10,000 to his campaign b&w photo by teich debators peter flaherty far right debated herbert denenberg far left as moderator david amidon and jeff bloom of the college young democrats looked on b4w lannarelli assistant to the dean of residence concerning the i urn er oiis complaints made about the room assignments for 1974-75 lannarelli said that the demand for housing for women is large due to the fact that only a small number of women leave the university by graduating moving off campus and transfering compared to the amount that enter lehigh as freshmen upperclassmen were given preference and received their first or second choice while the rest of the assignments were done by a lottery lannarelli said in the lottery names were listed alphabetically and then coordinated with a table of numbers if for example 30 women listed as first choice a residence hall with only 20 available places their numbers would determine which ones would live there women who could not be placed where they wanted but had paid their deposit fee were put on an unassigned room list this meant that there was a room for them women who hadn't paid their deposit were placed on a waiting list lannarelli said that the complaints came mostly from women m these lists she said most of the problems were being worked out due to vacancies becoming available and some changes being made lehigh will have five
