- arcadia officers rick rainin aide borin casey cogut aad rick slowes discuss motion to make the forum for visiting lecturers tha coordinator of all campus lectures sua story page s theater decisions presented by robert j weintraub main programs are outlined the student-faculty committee on the theater met for the first time tuesday and laid the groundwork for its fall program the controversial theater re port was presented by its author . h barrett davis professor of speech besides providing a compre hensive study of college theaters and an analysis of the possi bilities available to lemgh the report revealed that the word theater evoked varied respon ses from those interested " some were thinking in terms of a very large theater seating 4,000-5,000 persons to accom modate large concerts and broadway shows the report noted others were thinking in terms of an auditorium that would seat about 2,500 and would be designed to accommodate musi cals and dramatic performances a third group favored a » little theater seating 500-800 tms is the most common type of theater found on college cam puses the report said the committee decided that a large theater serving large concerts and shows should be semruurro aronofmwjt stable ear a tawnier here thus an endeavor to provide a large cost ly theater is unfeasible for the immediate future the general concensus of the committee was that lemgh should consider refurbishing grace hall at a cost of 50,000 75,000 this plan would call for installation of comfortable seats new lighting facilities and a paint job opposition to tms idea is expected from the department of physical education because installation of seats in grace hall would reduce its capacity by about roo davis reported it is hoped however that the refurbishment of grace hall or conversion of either packard lab auditorium or whitaker lab auditorium into a theater facility would perpetuate inter est in the performing arts during ths period preceding con struction of a satisfactory taw intends to recomni lawt^lia construction of a theater to en nfiajij needed emphasis upon the performing arts on the pert of the university the mood indicated that a facility seating 250-500 that can be ueed for student creativity and experi mental theater will be requested seniors to take comps faculty hears protests two small conflicts in the arts college involving the refusal of graduating seniors to take their senior comprehensive exams have been resolved without any problems in each case the settlement of the argument lay in a concession being made by the faculty the flret most publicized conflict occured in the english deport ment with a group of seniors majoring in english refusing to take their senior comprehensives a petition bearing 15 signatures was present ed to prof david greene chairman of the english major committee complaints against the exam lay mainly in that it was useless and amounted to a needless review of the previous four years of study after a meeting with the faculty on monday the group decided to take the comprehensives in return for a promise by ths english depart ment that the condition be reviewed and sometmng done about it next year also ths last-nunute nature of tms pleas precluded any drastic 141 protest lack of award from college of business by marty marasco a petition protesting the lack of s recipient for the outstanding teaching award from the college of business and economies waa signed by 141 students the petition referring to the tragic event of may is 1000 flagpole day stated " a great injustice was perpetrated and a iculty of the school of business nd oconomlcs it continued we the undcr igned believe that the arcadia omznlttee was partisan ta its hclccs unhealthy and narrow n its decision not to make an ward in the business college the petition concluded we lore ripiweentaiive of the stu ent body wish to offer a citation dt distinguish l (••? m n - c st kronses tom hodson 00 who along rtth elliott tepper 00 circu ited the petition said ihei be bought the committee whochose iot to give sn award to a member f the college of business sad economics had acted out of a lack of information aad nslgm hodson said the lack of a recipient was a slash at tha hole business school the faculty looks at the title of the iward aad knows that their soilage aad they themselves are iot considered oatstanttitgby ths students he said the committee who select the recipients of the award la com prosed of the presidents of arcadia ipc rhc and the lenlor class along with three members of omicron delta when these two parnassus moviegoers showed ap in whit aker lab dressed to fit tha roles in dracala aad the gold digger they were admitted free for their original efforts sea arts page 4 see student page 12 amon m 1 g this is the last issue | f of the brown and white 1 i for this semester
