last meeting folic ing recommendations of tm arts facuitv and tm committee on educational policy a student found deficient in writing on tm test could technically mve been required by tm dean of tm arts college to take additional english courses without credit tms requirement was never imple mented however and students who failed took tm exam over until they passed it still in tm regulations ls a requirement tmt students who persist in the use of unacceptable english tate additional english courses without credit according to dean yates tms requirement ms never been enforced eitmr but m of the recent changes in the lehigh alumni bul letin was obtained through interviews and eye-witness observations by the author the recent promotion of harry b ramsey associate editor of tm lehigh alumni bulletin to editor of tm same publication ms raised tm eyebrows of some faculty members and students in tm lemgh community what many in both groups can not understand is why tm editorship of a publication wmch was rated ln tm top ten in its field for tm past two years md to undergo such a change compounding the issue ls tm widely mid but only confidentially talked about belief tmt tm new editor is firmly under tm wing of tm conservative alumni office headed by robert a harrier it is impossible and not even fair to second guess tm job tmt ramsey will do only time will tell however it is fair to ask why such a switch took place one can not mlp but notice tmt tm change came only after tm publication earnestly md begun to tell alumni of significant tmngs mppening on campus to say simply tmt tm editor since 1964 john murphy director of publications resigned for " health reasons and tmt ramsey was chosen to fill tm vacancy does not suffice tm events leading to tm change must m examined one must first keep tn mind tmt the publication belongs to tm alumni office and tmt murphy and ms bulletin met for tm first time since 1964 tm notes staff ln tm publications office were only doing tm alumni association a service by editing tm publication on may 15 1968 tm publications committee a group of university alumni designated to oversee tm of tms meeting are not completely in accord with what some committee members claimed took place tm official minutes read tmt tm group urged a stronger rallying point around which tm bulletin should evolve and tmt tm bulletin should more accurately reflect tm wide awake lemgh of today however otmr members claim tmt tm bulletin was praised for its work and urged to continue tn tm direction on wmch they had embarked which to some members meant reflecting tm wide awake lehigh tm friday of alumni weekend may 30 1968 tm alumni board of directors met as it always does at tms time of year it decided to re focus tm direction of tm bulletin tm board claimed tmt tm publication was not adequately fulfilling its objective of telling alumni wmt is going on at lehigh and what activities alumni are involved ln tm bulletin at times ms men too controversial and ms been undermining tm good will of alumni also during tm weekend ramsey claims tmt several graduates voiced dissatisfaction over recent articles in tm bulletin at s special session of tm alumni executive board on june 19 lt was decided tmt ramsey would take an sole responsibility for tm class notes section of tte bulletin while murphy would m ln charge of the remainder of tm publication it was also decided tmt tm publications committee would m replaced with a more up-to-date editorial board wmch in turn would establish guidelines for tm editor and editorial policy of tm bulletin tm edit board was to be composed of members from tm publications commission and various campus representatives including prof joseph b mcfadden chairman of tm division of journalism paul franz vice president for development and e.m bennett 84 a bethlehem resident in early august tm edit board had its first meeting and tm members elected bennett chairman the board also mgan working on guidelines for tm bulletin bennett harrier and ramsey since ttey were t ogeiter at lemgh were given tm authority to work on tm guide unas tm first two drafts were mailed out during tm summer and returned by tm edit board members with recommendations and criticisms tte tmrd draft was presented at tm nov 7 edit board meeting in new york between tm two board meetings tm school yoar md started with tm bulletin still under tm leadersmp of murphy but on oct 21 , murphy informed tm alumni association by letter tmt for malth reasons and in see tale page 7
