brown and white vol 77 no 35 bethlehem pa - friday march 4 1966 866-0331 solons back rhc campbell on fines at this time it is not possible to eliminate the fines harvey york 67 president of arcadia said wednesday night york's statement came following wednesday's arcadia meetingdurlng which he gained the consensus of the solons to back rhc and dean campbell in their attempts to reduce the fines based on damage to fire equipment during the meeting york reported on his talks with dr charles seidle vice president for administration and clarence campbell director of residence halls and associate dean of students to discuss the fines following a brief review of his discussions york asked and received the consensus of arcadia in supporting rhc and dean campbell arcadia feels that the fines are necessary in order to insure the protection of the lives of the members of the residence halls york said from this vantage we agree whole-heartedly with the trustees on the purpose of the fines york said while arcadia agreed as to the purpose they believe the fines o lie excessive the only definite action taken by arcadia concern ing the fines was to turn the consideration of freshman responsibility over to the freshman life committee for investigation we want the students to feel responsibility in protecting the equipment york said we are considering a proposal which would give the fresh men greater responsibility in the payment of the fines casey cogut freshman class president said the 400 in fines levied on dravo house would not be paid pending the april 15 trustee's meeting a third party to the york-campbell meeting tuesday cogut said concurred wtth york's l>ellef that only through a system of fines could the safety of the residence halls students be insured he indicated that until a letter system was pro posed the fine system would probably continue harvey york casky m;iit ksc ejects u students campus police ordered lehigh students to leave the kutztown state college campus m two separate incidents saturday night on one occasion john r holloway 67 said he was told by a campus policeman at kutz town that lehigh students were not allowed on the campus hol loway said wednesday that he was seeking a friend from high school when confronted by the officer as holloway was leaving the campus he said another officer stopped his car and told him that several students from lehigh had stranded some kutztown girls four miles from the campus another student michael b musser 67 said wednesday that when he tried to enter a kutztown dance saturday he was told by an officer that he could not attend unless he was a kutztown stu dent or a guest a freshman counselor kutz town senior charles young told the brown and white wednesday that some lehigh students had gained illegal entry into the kutztown dance hall feb 19 by breaking a window m the rear young said that the dean of men at kutztown had straigh tened out the problem with the lehigh students but did not know what solution had been reached in reply to a question about the girls being deposited some distance frorrt the campus young said that he was aware of the incident but did not know any details the girls involved were pun ished by being confined to their rooms according to young he added that the identity of the lehigh students was not known and that they were not caught taylor will speak at blaustein series gen maxwell d taylor former ambassador to south viet nam will discuss the vietnamese war and today's multi-polar world m his presentation at the second annual blaustein series wednesday and thursday dr carey b joynt head of the department of international relations and organizer of the lectures said that gen taylor's recent mid western speaking tour will have very little bearing on his lectures the were i m and i soon publication i speculating on the content of the i the first i multl i polar will probably deal i consequences the i breakdown bi polar nature i the the nature of i politics the i new be i wednesday will i be of i liberation m nam thursday afternoon taylor will i the i the entitled i to cope multl i probably tell i we can lessons i nam to multl i polar in taylor also meet i informally and i faculty during his two stay i his planned i are you interested - dave lambert chris hansen jonathan greene and harry tweedie left to right discuss the activities of tha german club during activities night which was held m the university center monday evening see story page 8 • increase in arcadia membership asked by glenn airgood a possible plan to revise the voting procedure and size of arcadia was introduced by james oyler 67 at the wednesday night meeting of arcadia due to a lack of time a discussion of the new proposals was tabled until the next meeting in a report on the expansion of arcadia ovler cited several reasons for the needed revisions commenting on the increasing role which arcadia is playing m university life he said in the report there is one pressing difficulty which is arising out of this increased role of arcadia namely that arcadia lias not grown m numbers com mensurate with its new responsibilities the body of sixteen men established two years ago is simply not large enough to handle the increased work load oyler raised two questions m his report how large should arcadia be and how shall the new members l>e chosen the report stressed the point that the new memliers should not be elected in an at-large election he cited the inability of the student body to familiarize themselves with the candidates as the primary reason why new memliers should riot be elected at large oyler felt that the best solution to the problem would be to have one more representative each from ifc and rhc " both of these groups could easily provide another representative and both have demonstrated m the past that their representatives are quite cajiable reported oyler oyler related that the government department is currently making a synopsis of the various voting systems which might possibly be used at lehigh m future elections this information should lie available m the near future he said in other action the arcadia reception for gen taylor was discussed york emphasized that during the reception to tie held in the asa packer room thursday night march 10 only students faculty and their guests will be invited he stressed that only those with i.d cards will lie admitted and all i.d cards will be checked at the door taylor to talk at thursday's jr.-sr dinner general maxwell taylor will be the guest ol honor at tlie junior senior class banquet to be held next thursday at the hotel bethlehem tlie dinner sponsored and subsidized by tlie two classes is open toall juniors and seniors according to brooks zug 67 president of the junior class between three and five hundred people will be present for the cocktails agd roast beef dinner gen taylor will speak offtl cuff for a few minutes before the dinner is adjourned the lecture part of the blaustein series will follow the dinner admission to the dinner is 1.50 per man see taylor page 10
