brown and white vol 78 no 22 bethlehem pa tuesday december 13 1966 866-033 dean gets vehicle control by dan gladding effective the end of this week the whole area of motor vehicles will be transferred to the office of the dean of students arthur msnn assistant dean of students announced friday starting officially next monday all records concerning motor vehicles will be kept in the dean of student's office and that office will settle all traffic cases handle all automobile registrations and will be responsible for setting motor vehicle policy the campus police will report all violations directly to us mann said all violations will be handled only by the office of the dean of students the change which was initiated by the dean's council has been approved by the treasurer's office and the office of buildings and grounds in a memorandum issued by the dean's council one of the reasons for the relocation of motor vehicle responsibility was because the superintendent of buildings and grounds of necessity is primar ily involved with things whereas the dean of students are primarily involved with people although motor vehicle regulations certainly do hot comprise an area which any office in the university seeks to administer it would seem logical to place this in a people office another reason quoted by the deans council was the overlap in motor vehicle regulations some of the overlap and necessary duplication of effort could be avoided by centralisation of this area of responsibility in the office of the dean of students the memor andum said the transfer of authority over motor vehicles to the dean of students was made with the understanding that a thorough review of all policies and practices in the area of motor vehicle regulations would be made mann said we will study the entire motor vehicle picture mann said but there will be no immediate changes we will try to get enough experience in the next semester to set up a committee of students or possibly of
