lehigh university brown and white vol 78 - no 23 bethlehem pa friday december 16 1966 866-0331 deans state u drug position editor's note the following statement was issued wednesday by the deans council co explain the university's position on the pos sible use of drugs by lehigh students if rumors were worth anything deans would be rich we hear all sorts of rumors almost every day the rumor rate increases or decreases according to the intensity of life on the campus this phenomenon occurs on every campus the rate increases after each campus event especially controversial ones and decreases during inactive periods or during quizzes examinations and vaca tions some rumors are picayune some are serious the serious rumors deserve consideration but more often than not they tell more about the rumor monger than they tell about the rumor deans give to un evidenced rumor the short-shrift consideration it deserves upon evidenced rumor they make careful investigation last week was no exception the lehigh valley student assn sponsored a forum at muhlenberg with dr timothy leary and donald louria,m.d speaking on the subject " lsd immediately and predictably rumors were rife because of their serious nature these rumors are being investigated meanwhile it might be instructive to state publicly our policy concerning either the supplying or illicit drmkma is o|<l - passioned svo o?p com qhu m^itk s)i have fo be to\t it j vieu'll v«*i out u>u«v tu riv-tt v/040.wc uiitl occut t \*\ the rumor uae of narcotics including marijuana and dangerous drag including lsd on this campua lehigh university will not condone the use of such narcotics or drugs the sale and use of narcotics is a federal as well as a state of fense subject to mandatory heavy fines and imprisonment there are also federal and state laws prohibiting the illicit use of dan gerous drugs it must be recognized that the university cannot shield students from the law and its consequences indeed the uni versity must and does cooperate with law en forcement agencies the primary responsibility of lehigh is education we are proud of our students they are adult intelligent hard-working and law-abiding citizens upon them and others like them the future of our country abides if occasionally a student violates the confidence of his fellow students and of the uni versity he must be dealt with in accordance with the established principles of community responsi bility and government arcadia representative chosen by 69 cabinet the class of 69 cabinet elected rick slowes as arcadia represent ative at its meeting tuesday night the need for electing an additional representative followed the passage of last week's referendum to expand arcadia in announcements of profit-making functions al baker said that 200 is a close estimate of the class's profit on the dlonne warwick-paul butterfield concert the major expenses were 2,500 for warwick and 2,000 for butterfield and his band karl klein announced that the class made a profit of 95 on its com puter mixer and that the opinion poll taken on the mixer was very much in favor of another in other announcements rick slowes said that the class banquet com mittee will try to get al capp as speaker for a banquet of lehigh and cedar crest sophomores planned for may also al borln announced that there are now 471 signatures on the new constitution of the 517 needed for ratification arcadians hold caucus by marty marasco the members of arcadia xxi met for the first time in caucus wednesday night the purpose of the caucus was to acquaint the new arradians with the work they would be doing next semester and to accept nominations for arcadia offices nominations are made by assuming that each member of the new arcadia is seeking the office the slate of candidates is made up of those who do not decline nomination jeff kapell 68 and marty cohen 68 accepted the nomination for president kapell is presently vice-president of arcadia and cohen serves as corresponding secretary to arcadia xx al borin 69 and james winchester accepted the nominations forvice-president.bothare mem bers of arcadia xx those acceptinpthe nomination for corresponding secretary were rich rainin 69 and rtchard slowes 69 james tanenbaum 70 and emmanuel ticzon 68 accepted the nom m.ition for recording secretary those accepting the nomination for treasurer were ted breton 68 lynn aylsworth 68 and george mccnnnel 69 - in addition to those mentioned above anv m«mb«r of arcadia may decide to run for an office or decline the nomination he has accepted at any time before the voting on monday night along with the 1g members of arcadia who had l>een previously appointed or were elected in last week's election the four new seats that resulted from the referendum to expand arcadia were filled the new seats have been filled by an additional representative from ifc hhc the junior class and the sophomore clans meetings of these groups following passage of the expansion referendum chose the following new arcadians robert kaufman 68 rhc donald kemp 60 ifc lynn aylsworth junior class and itickslowes sophomore class 841 ph«u by butt new art work adorns say re park following the first snowstorm of the season the storm hit tuesday giving fresh men their first taste of how treacherous the campus steps really can be sport car rally sunday navigator's nightmare des cribes the sports car club's 80 mile rally to be held this sunday afternoon the event for which 30 stu dents have already pre reglstered will start at the bethlehem holiday inn and end at the university center late registration may be done at the start but there will be 1 add ed to the 3 pre-registrationfee preregistration may be made with greg montillor 70 rally master for this rally , in rich ards 303 he urged beginners to come out because of the relatively short distance and the two classifications available in the unequipped class for which there are four trophies for the top drivers and four for their navigators any instrument except a time speed-distance calculator may be used in the seat of the pants class which also has first through fourth prizes for both members of the teams odometers will be cover ed but a wristwatch and pencil may be used preregistration is urged for an early start and in addition to the driver and navigator trophies dash plaques will be given to ail drivers entering glee club chatham choir to give vespers sunday the lehigh university glee club will join the chatham college choir in presenting the annual christmas vespers service sunday at 4 p.m in packer memorial church the glee club under the direction of robert cutler will present among other selections palestrina's " hodie christmas natus est and " ivy and holly an irish traditional carol featuring thomas harrow 70 tenor soloist the chatham college choir in its second christmas service at lehigh will perform a group of christmas pieces by leo sowerby under the direction of lorenzo malfatti together the choruses will present joseph haydn's " te deum on this day the traditional processional of gustav hoist and " lo how a rose by paetorius in addition the lehigh university brass ensemble will present a program of renaissance christmas music welcome carril 1 the class of 69 and the alumni association will i ; sponsor a " welcome pete | car rir night this saturday i to officially introduce the | engineers new head \ basketball coach during the short pro \ i gram which will begin at ; : 7:45 carril and the mem i \ bers of the varsity squad • will be introduced profes ;•• sor steckbeck will be \ \ master of ceremonies i 1 1 it pot weed grass tea boo joint stick reefer hash stuff marijuana it's all the same thing if you've got it flush it quick and follow up with a kood dose of drano
