iinfyniiulfnl two educational policy committee lid pol proposals eliminating the pass fail grading system und raising the minimum grade point average for graduation were outlined at thur sday's forum xvii meeting according to junior li hamilton forum's college of arts and science representative to edpol the proposals will be presented to the faculty by their april meeting edpol proposed to eliminate the pass-fail course system completely according to hamilton the committee believes that the pass-fail course system is abused many professors feel that when students take courses pass-fail they either do not come to class or put forth little effort after the first exam thereby making the class less of a learning environment professors feel this lack of effort on the part of some students is detrimental to others not taking the course pass-fail hamilton also said that edpol has fpund many second semester seniors taking introductory level courses violating one of the purposes of the pass-fail system which is to encourage students to take non-introductory courses outside their major the second proposal presented raises the minimum grade point average for graduation from 1.7 to 2.0 the reasoning behind this proposal is thai lid pol believes i ha lehigh confers degrees upon incompetent people hamilton said this proposal if ac cepted would affect the incoming class in the fall of 1988 in response lo hamilton's report forum resolved to organize a com mittee to study i he proposals and make its own recommendation to edpol and the faculty before the proposals are presented to the faculty in other business forum passed four resolutions the subcommittee for a visitor friendly campus compiled six recommendations from a campus survey which were approved by the forum according to the resolution university buildings will be marked with their names and numbers at their main entrance and other appropriate areas additionally street signs will be posted on campus roadways and directional signs to specific buildings and the goodman and mountaintop campuses will be posted at the main intersections on the main campus as well as at the goodman and moun tainlop campuses permanent lighted campus maps will be posted at strategic locations on campus the first three will be located near the campu.v entrance between the philosophy building and packard lab the parking area west of the alumni memorial building and at the new street turnaround behind j-airchild martindale library campus bus schedules will also be posted at all stops and the stops will be indicated on the campus maps lastly a staffed informational center will t>e established and located at an ap propriate place on campus possibly in the alumni memorial building also passed by the forum henry's attorneys missed the deadline for presentation of psychiatric test results on dec 31 and were given an extension to feb 18 the presentation was postponed lo lasl friday when henry's attorneys notified the court thai i licit psychiatric evidence was not complete in the order setting the new hearing date franciosa said no more continuances would he granted in i he matter • at the hearing pranciosa said the defense had been given nine months already lo furnish results " there's been no explanation to date why so little progress has been made and the court has no assurance that any 8:30 a.m and they started my drinking at about 9:15 a.m it was pretty original " according to bob feldman 87 who participated in the standard field sobriety test training at grace hall last wednesday campus police as well as policemen from easton wilson hellertown lower saucon and bethlehem township were trained to administer sobriety tests last tuesday wed nesday and thursday feldman along with four other lehigh students a mayor a magistrate and two criminal justice office employees served as test subjects if a policeman stops a suspected drunk driver on the road he will usually administer one or all of three road tests before giving a breathalizer or a blood-test the one-leg-stand test requires the person to stand with his feet together toes apart and lift his right leg 6 inches off the ground with his knee locked the subject then must keep his arms at his sides and count to 30 by thousands in the walk-and-turn test the subject must keep his arms at his sides and must walk toe-to heel nine paces in a straight line turn around and walk back also the policeman asks the subject to count to nine by thousands while walking people can practice these two tests and master them quite easily in fact we had people practicing them at the criminal justice office who were quite successful but you can't practice the last test according to jill smith an adult probation officer and
