a memorandum from associate dean of students mark erickson to house presidents and gryphons said the suspect was carrying a knife terrence curran assistant dean of students said the attack was of a similar variety to those on the lehigh campus last fall an unidentified man with the same reported physical characteristics as in previous reports including the black ski mask is sought for 14 recent bethlehem-area incidents ranging from indecent exposure to attempted rape the victim a non-lafayette student was not injured according to smeaton another attack had occurred feb 22 north of the lafayette campus when a suspect with the same description assaulted a female student an investigation of the feb 22 incident is currently under way according to lt carl beers of the easton police beers however would not confirm the march 6 attack saying he wanted to protect the situation and the victim beers said any information in the middle of an in vestigation would be counterproductive he cited articles of clothing specifically ski masks as possible evidence in the case lafayette had no comment on the incident junior stable after car crash by craiq hofsess brown and while ntm wriltr two lehigh students were involved in an automobile and bicycle collision on packer avenue tuesday afternoon leaving one student seriously injured according to bethlehem police junior patrick kelsey was riding his bicycle when he was struck by the automobile thrown onto the hood and hit the windshield and was thrown over the left side of the roof to finally land on the street the car a 1978 saab was being driven by sophomore allison camp 20 of oipson residential college kelsey of 429 montclair avenue was reported to be in critical but stable condition and was still in the intensive care unit randomly chosen whether or not they feel safe walking on campus at night the poll revealed that students consider the steps behind richards house the road in front of taylor gym and the area between packer memorial chapel and christmas-saucon hall to be areas too dark to walk through at night the survey indicated that almost 17 percent of lehigh women feel they are either adequately trained in self defense or take other precautions to ward off an attack only 11 percent said they never feel completely safe anywhere on campus one student who asked to remain anonymous said although she feels lehigh is not particularly unsafe she admitted to being wary of areas where attacks have already occurred she also said she is scared when she has no one to walk her home the survey also revealed that only 54 percent of the female student body uses the lehigh shuttle despite their fears a complaint by most of those in terviewed found fault in the shuttle's time schedule junior valerie vandigriffi said she uses the shuttle when it shows up but they don't stick to the route they're supposed to follow many of those polled asked about the sophomore escort service which was to be started this year
