signed a peace pact at the meeting of ar cadia last night in drown hall the agreement for this year's football game was as follows we the student council of la fayette college and the arcadia of lehigh university agree to do all in our power to continue this tra dition on a friendly basis we agree to establish a joint committee of three representatives from each in stitution which will be responsible continued on page four if ball plans to be made dorm council committee appointed to answer houseparty queries a 50 loan offered by arcadia last monday evening was refused by the international relations club at a meeting last night in drown hall announced welles r bliss arts 42 president of the club the loan calling for repayment by the end of may was turned down on the grounds that it was financially impractical if the mon ey could be repayed by the end of may the grant would not have been asked for the club had asked for a grant of 135 to help finance the organ ization through the coming year but received an offer of only a 50 loan in its place a motion was adopted to accept arcadia's offer to confer with the executive committee of the club to investigate display of strategic minerals on the first floor of williams hall has been prepared in connection with the sigma xi sponsored lec ture by dr edward sampson pro fessor of geology at princeton uni versity at 8 p m monday in packard auditorium the display was arranged by gerald v carroll arts 43 who was supervised by dr robert d butler assistant professor of geol ogy mineral ores used in the ex hibition were taken from the le high university collection the strategic minerals on dis play are aluminum antimony chromium manganese mercury nickel tin and tungsten these specimens came from europe south america japan canada and the united states also exhi bited are maps showing the loca tions of the minerals dr sampson began his career as an instructor of geology at rutgers university in 1919 he was made assistant geologist for the united states geologic survey from 1920 to 1922 and associate geologist from 1922 to 1934 in 1925 he be came assistant professor of geology at princeton and has been asso ciate professor since 1928 he was chairman of the department of geology from 1934 to 1936 a member of american british and canadian mining and geologic associations dr sampson has written the naval aviation cadet selection board spoke yes terday afternoon in packard lab oratory on aviation in the navy the main purpose of the talk was to acquaint lehigh juniors and seniors with naval aviation train ing and to possibly enlist enough students to form a lehigh branch of the naval reserve training according to lieut ludlum the training course will last for ten months after which the student will be transferred to one of the three principal naval flight train ing centers at pensacola florida jacksonville florida and corpus christi texas for advanced train ing at this time he is appointed as aviation cadet a grade similar to that of a midshipman at the naval academy upon completion of flight train ing and designation as a naval aviator the cadet is commissioned as ensign in
