will study ticket sale dads invited to rally j calvin callaghon director of intercollegiate debating neil car others guest speaker and cole s bembreck director of intramural debating informally discuss various debating problems after the smoker held last night by the debating council 10 pilots make solo flights by william hinterleiter there hasn't been a big blaze on the campus since 1929 but le high is again becoming fire con science the fraternities are in stalling fire escapes a new fire hydrant is in use and the fire alarm system will be hooked-up with bethlehem's sometime in the future the biggest campus conflagration was the destruction of the physi cal laboratory in 1900 on april 4 1929 a fire causing 15,000 dam age to the physics building was the only other serious one in the university's history all buildings on the campus ex cluding the fraternities are now equipped with fire alarm boxes however these boxes are not con nected with the city alarm system but only sound the alarm in the building and the master alarm at the power house according to a will lecture religious club marketing club selects 4 men rev darby will relate his army experiences in present war caa students complete necessary number of flying hours to celebrate anniversary with initiation dinner scheduled nov 5 state law the alarms must be within 100 feet of any place on every floor of all buildings on the campus new hydrant installed when the university's construc tion program is completed the campus fire alarm system will be incorporated with the city's alarm system and better protection will be afforded to lehigh with the completion of grace hall a new high-pressure hydrant was install ed this make a total of 15 hy drants on or adacent to the cam pus all of these except one are high-pressure outlets that is they are connected to a high-pressure water main the low-pressure hy drant is located in front of the chapel it is the oldest plug hooked up with the city's water system and is a run-off of the low-pres sure main which lies along packer avenue this main has only a pressure of from 35 to 65 pounds which is con sidered inadequate for good fire protection this water line comes from the reservoir at st luke's hospital and supplies the region south of packer avenue and above the river during the war when the city of bethlehem grew by leaps and bounds a new reservoir was urgent so the one on top of south mountain was opened higher than campus the height of the reservoir is considerably higher than any point on the campus and therefore the 16-inch main builds up a large pressure as it runs through the campus along university avenue continued on page four in an attempt to strengthen stu dent government at lehigh and to study problems common to the en
