the board of trustees decision over turning the university forum for the first time over the controversial all university complex was a surprise to some faculty members while expected by others they more or less had to . ." said robert cutler professor and chairman of the department of music referring to the action by the board of trustees prof cutler said he thinks the money is available for building at lehigh but is directed to athletics the alumni are interested in athletics cutler continued i hope in 25-years the alumni may be interested in library expenditures and endowment cutler agrees with professors george dinsmore associate professor of civil engineering and lawrence leder chair man of the department of history that the board's decision is final and that they wouldn't attempt to interfere we must accept the decision said cutler and immediately start working for passage of other things in the future dinsmore said the argument is over and now everyone must support the total program tobenefit the whole school the original forum adopted plan called for a proposed 4 5 mi hi on creative arts center this center would have consisted of a theater a music hall a little dramatic theater a rehearsal hall for the band and choral groups and would house the music and fine arts departments since the center will not be built other options have been proposed a combined bethlehem lehigh theater may be built leder said this would satisfy lehigh's needs and it could also benefit moravian college also located in bethlehem cutler would like to see it built on packer ave or near the border of the campus the problem with the proposed theater is that it would only be used for drama a music hall would have to be built for concerts he thinks the chapel could be converted into a con cert hall which would have symphony and rhoir programs this building can hold approximately 1,000 people another solution to finding a good theater is the remodeling of grace hall this is possible because intercollegiate sports would be moved to the athletic complex one of the major issues the minority plan faced was whether enough funds could be raised to back it cutler stressed that lehigh is one of the highest ranking universities in the country in alumni gifts robert cutler professor and chairman of the department of music was a strong supporter of the minority report in the
