brown and white vol 83 - no 52 bethlehem pa friday may 12 1972 866-0331 forum elects officers dinsmore is chairman by david ingram george dinsmore associate professor of civil engineering was elected chairman of forum 111 at their meeting monday the forum also acted on a motion by the priorities planning and resources com mittee pp&r to initiate further study on the establishment of a law school at lehigh others elected to offices for forum 111 were marc jacobs 73 vice-chairman and scott hopkins 73 secretary treasurer four representatives to the board of trustees were also elected they were george kane professor of industrial engineering benjamin litt associate professor of management and finance harold koplin 73 and gary goodman 73 these offices all run for one year the pp&r motion wlvch was passed unanimously suggested that the academic affairs committee should initiate a study of the educational benefits which would accrue to the university if a law school were established the results of this study are to be reported by november 197 2 and brought to the floor of the forum by their february 1973 meeting the feasibilities of a law school have been studied by a faculty committee under the educational policy committee which gave their report earlier this year and by two sub-committees of pp&r the report of pp&r claimed that further study is needed on the effects of the law school on other departments and of the fund raising resourses of lehigh for a law school equipment check dr william newman left assistant professor of psychol ogy at lehigh and robert p seidel lehigh freshman from reading pa check equipment in studio of student-operated television station which will be in full operation by next semester dr newman is faculty advisor to the student group and seidel is chief engineer tv station to operate by fall station developed by students a campus television studio and station will be in full operation next fall and will open up a wide spectrum of possibilities in the field of video com munications for the university under the guidance of dr william newman assistant professor of psychology the facility whose studio is located in quarters contributed by the psychology department in williams hall has been developed and built entirely by lehigh students according to dr newman the three main objectives of the station will be to provide students with a medium in which to document their college experience and communicate with others helping them to define and strengthen lehigh's sense of community to serve education by supple menting the classroom experience and allowing faculty feedback about style of teaching and to serve as a general mode of communication and exchange of in formation between faculty adminis trators students and alumni students have outfitted the studio with electronic equipment and have strung hundreds of feet of video cable giving them the capability of producing and broadcasting their own television pro grams via closed-circuit to the campus service electric cable tv inc of beth lehem and allentown pa provided assistance in making the campus cable runs equipment includes three cameras with which they will produce studio broadcasts and a portable unit which will be used to film remote programs such as lectures in classrooms or documentary work around campus the tv facility grew out of lehigh's new doctor of arts d.a program which is directed by dr newman some of the equipment was purchased with funds from this program which the tv facility will enhance the d.a program which supplements lehigh's ph.d program is designed to help the student develop communications skills in a particular content area pre sently the centers of activity are psychology government and business and economics the primary emphasis is presently in helping individuals become better teachers in a given discipline much of the equipment was designed and built by the students led by robert p seidel 75 and w andrew wright lehigh graduate student seidel is now in the process of formal izing the organization of the student group for next year's operations also scheduled for next year in con junction with the station are university classes in the use of television techniques and in the psychological and social impli cations of the medium and a laboratory in the use of television equipment george dinsmore u glee club to spend three weeks on tour of british isles this summer by pat fekula the combined lehigh university glee club connecticut college chorus will make a whirlwind tour of the british isles from june 5 to june 26 the trip will include stops at dublin ireland where the group will give a concert at st patrick's cathedral oxford cam bridge stratford and london england a total of ten concerts will be given by the combined 70-member choir under the direction of prof robert cutler chairman of the lehigh music department in addition to performing the group will visit such historic sites as conway castle tintern abbey stonehenge salis bury cathedral stratford-on-avon and trafalgar square the group will leave kennedy airport monday june 5 and will arrive in dublin ireland the following morning wednesday evening they are scheduled to give a concert in st patrick's cathedral according to prof cutler the group will be the first outside choir to give a concert in the 13th century cathedral while in dublin the choir will be able to attend plays in the famous abbey and peacock theatres the group will take a voyage across the irish sea to holyhead on the western tip of wales the choir will then sing in the roos theatre in rhosllanerchrogog wales and be the guests for three nights in the homes of members of a welsh chorus they will leave wales for bristol england stopping in route at tinturn abbey and chepstow castle the following day they will sight-see in the area of dorset england where they will visit mysterious stonehenge and salisbury cathedral the choir will give a concert in the chapel of new college oxford university from there they will visit the birthplace of william shakespeare stratford-on avon and attend a performance in the shakespeare festival theatre sunday evening the choir will sing in the parish church of the holy trinity this 13th century building is situated on the avon river and contains the grave of william shakespeare leaving stratford the tour will perform in the new coventry cathedral in coventry england and in the ely cathedral just outside of cambridge the ely cathedral is considered by many people to be the greatest of all english cathedrals the glee club will then wind up their tour with a concert in the church of st martins-in-the-field's trafalgar square london prof cutler who along with student tour leader andy knoll went abroad for a month to plan the trip stated we feel that our 20 days abroad gives us a relaxed journey from dublin eastward to london with two and three night stands an optimum number of concerts in wonderful places and three oppor tunities to live in private homes and get to know the people of the area alumni officers for class of 72 elected monday at a meeting held monday to select alumni officers for the class of 72 the following seniors were elected president ollie foucek secretary paul maloney class agent rick koby standing com mittee members bob gryzwacz bill jesse les schneider chuck steele john fields blake johnstone larry salerno and ken scott the president is responsible for the coordinating of all alumni activities the secretary has the duty of writing the class correspondent column in the alumni bulletin while the class agent aids the annual giving campaign the task of the standing committee is to advise the executive board see pp&r page 4 last issue this will be the last issue of the brown and white for the semester publication will resume next september have a good summer
