priority and research committee will recommend the addition of a law school to i.chigh al the february forum meeting the committee concluded that the i_aw school if approved by the board of trustees should be established as soon as possible in order to take full advantage of the currently high student demand for legal education the recommendation will state it was resolved that on the basis of its own studies and that of the ed pol committee the forum finds the establish ment of a moderate size high quality law school at i_ehigh which would form an integral part of the university would yield important educational benefits to the university would address a well defined social need would be financially viable and would be consistent with the available resources and the existing priorities of the university the forum therefore urges the president and ihe board of trustees to give active and timely consideration to the establishment of a law school al lehigh j ralph lindgren associate professor of philosophy outlined a possible six-year law school budget which he said is a projection and not in tact an actuality lindgren said he was trying to show that the initial cost would be modest and quickly recoverable some projections include 2,650 tuition with an increase of 200 a year the operating expenses presented to the group reflect a deduction of cost saving effected by a gift of 80,000 volumes to the library which pp&r assumes may be made to the university lindgren said he forsees the total costs for the first year as 109,000 which takes into consideration operating expenses and 40 per cent of salaries and wages outlining the plan lindgren said the probability of cultivating sources of significant gifts lo support the operation of the law school gifts b for mation of the lehigh valley area health education center stated william r thompson m.d chief of the department of medicine at st luke's hospital thompson said the program would be set up so that a student could plan to receive an m.d degree in six years it would involve two years in an un dergraduate school two years in a medical school and two years in a medical hospital he said there would have to be an agreement between the three institutions involved so that if a student fulfilled the specifications he would be guaranteed a place at each level according to thomp son the objective of lvahec said thompson is to plan coordinate and implement educational programs in order to ensure high quality medical aid in the i-chigh valley a program of this sort would help in increasing the number of mils in the area he stated thompson said some people don't believe that a total of six years is enough lime to be trained but that all schools have been interested and are fertile soil lor the development of a program of this sort he added that the future development of a six-year program is going to depend a lot on the availability of money the money might come from the federal government he said but he sees the prospect of money coming from local sources as highly doubtful thompson described other areas of concern to lvahec for improving medical aid in the lehigh valley he said they want to organize viable and aggressive educational programs to do this they must achieve an ad ministrative structure that will require the hiring of a full-time professional coordinator thompson stated lvahec is concerned with the development and implementation of a patient care program according to thompson before implementing such a program lie said that there is a need to know if the program will give the best possible care the program can borrow concepts that have already been investigated and possibly improve upon them it can outline how methods can be im plemented and see that they are im plemented thompson stated lvahec wants to develop an emergency care education program according to thompson there are questions to be answered concerning emergency service he said such as should all hospitals have emergency rooms and should ambulance drivers be medically trained there is a family practice residence program already in exustence at sacred heart hospital in allentown thompson said which just hasn't gotten off ihe ground he said lvahec will support it the purpose is to have more physicians to handle the bulk of the medical problem thompson said and those patients requiring specialist care will be referred to specialists women's roles to be discussed in career parley the changing role of women in society women and the job market and women in ihe arts are among the topics to be discussed during a women's career con ference scheduled for early march initial planning for the conference was the subject of a recent women's caucus meeting ruth hurley assistant dean of student life and renae mead who will help organize the conference explained that it will center on problems facing women preparing to enter the job market or graduate or professional schools issue that speakers and panels will cover include women's new economic creative and social opportunities careers and job discrimination laws and how women with families handle outside jobs dean hurley and ms mead said they want to feature women who own businesses women in overseas careers and politics women executives and artists and women attending graduate and professional schools lehigh graduate arrested top aide to jack anderson leslie 11 whitten jr reporter and researcher for syndicated columnist jack anderson and a 1950 university graduate was arrested wednesday by fbi agents on charges of receiving and possessing stolen government documents according to an fbi spokesman the documents were among those stolen from the bureau of indian affairs building in washington last november when a group of militant indians occupied the building for six days whitten was seized outside an apart ment occupied by hank adams a sioux indian who was one of the leaders of the trail of broken treaties organization that planned the occupation the spokesman said that adams daniel pigeon and allison cerri of silver springs md were arrested on the same charges after a search of the apartment uncovered some of the documents in a statement released after the arrests had been made anderson stated that whitten had been handcuffed and fingerprinted and thrown in jail in outrageous violation of the first amend ment for doing his job as a reporter he said that whitten was meeting adams and the others to examine the documents he said tuesday however that neither he nor whitten had actually taken possession of the stolen materials and added that we did not ask the indians to steal them at an arraignment before a united states magistrate whitten a former brown and white editor and adams were both charged with receiving concealing and retaining stolen government property valued at more than 100 the maximum penalty for such an offense a felony is a 10,000 fine and 10 years in
