proposal i'm announcing it dean john w hunt of the college of arts and science remarked in reference to the proposed change in the language requirement the motion requires 10 credit hours instead of the presently required 17 or 18 hours hunt speaking to the academic affairs committee at their invitation last thur sday said that he is much fresher than most of you on the information con cerning the proposed motion which will soon come before the arts and science committee if the motion is to be implemented hunt explained that it must be passed in turn by the arts and science committee the arts and science faculty ed-pol and the university faculty he recommended that seniors not drop language courses in an ticipation of a change in the requirement speculating that the motion won't be resolved until well into the current semester hunt said that the arts and science committee will probably hold an open hearing on the proposed change he also said that the arts and science committee may initiate a more basic discussion on the requirement and added that he will guarantee that the faculty will discuss the merits of the distribution concept the proposed motion developed by the classics department allows students uie most leeway according to hunt it states that in the case of a language begun at lehigh three courses will be required in those languages offered on a 3-3-3-3 sequence for languages offered on thes-5 4-3 sequence two courses will suffice hunt said that the proposed motion has been circulated to various departments and that t here has been no reaction as of expensive meter maid program would make the report difficult to sell jackson said that the force of meter maids and the office and equipment required to make the force work would cost 32,332 per year all you'd get out of the force would be more tickets said arthur mann associate dean of students improvement fund the committee proposed that all money collected from fines and registration fees be kept in a special fund that will be used only for the improvement of the traffic and parking facilities on campus jackson explained that in the new proposal each person is helping to defray some of parking fees and faculty fines after parking committee chairman prof thomas e jackson presented his motion to institute parking registration lees and to drop the parking enforcement body from informed the group that a quorum was not present calls to adjourn dinsmore suggested that the members of the forum who were present convene as a committee of the whole to discuss the law school motion dinsmore in answer to calls for adjournment ended the meeting without further discussion from the floor trustee report earlier in the meeting trustee representative benjamine litt professor of management reported that the trustees have adopted a recommendation that some of the accumulated capital gains realized from adjustments in the university's investment portfolio be made available for use in the operating budget accordingly 70,000 will be made available next year and 65,000 the following year said litt according to litt one trustee was so impressed with the wagner claims computerization causes delays by karen ernst late class lists the delay in issuing the university directory and illegible grade transcripts were the result of problems in adjusting to uie computerization of uie registration system according to registrar james h wagner we have to do everything to make uie computer do what it's supposed to do which is a painstaking operation ex plained wagner he said that all the personal information about students such as social security numbers addresses and emergency contacts has to be coded and written out by hand for the keypunch operators coding takes an extreme amount of time said wagner because all the per sonal information has to be written out for every add and drop punched out and george beezer 57 named new head of publications george l beezer 57 former globe times staffer has been appointed director of publications at the university president w deming lewis announced saturday beezer will be in charge of the new lehigh university news the news was discontinued last spring by the ad ministration after a controversial article was withheld about forum debate on the 10 year plan and the all-university complex beezer will be responsible for lehigh's total publications program his duties will also include direction of major periodical pieces catalog series admission booklets graduation programs development brochures and a number of pamphlets and posters beezer has been associate editor of today magazine and editor of tv week the philadelphia inquirer's sunday magazines for the past two years before joining the inquirer he was an editor with the philadelphia bulletin for nine years heading uie feature depart ment copy desk for the last five years while an undergraduate at the university beezer was a journalism major and served in many positions with the brown and white including that of editorial page director beezer worked one summer as a reporter for the philadelphia bulletin and two summers for the allentown morning call while attending lehigh after completion of army service beezer returned to bethlehem for three years as a reporter and county editor with the globe times leaving in 1961 to join the staff of the philadelphia bulletin beezer was president of pi delta ep silon the undergraduate journalism honorary society and a member of kappa sigma social fraternity he belongs
