council held in drown hall last monday night october 13 the following committees were appointed : athletic committee v de wy socki chairman j l bergdoll m p paret social committee j l rosen miller chairman j m howard j j shipherd the constitution of the inter fraternity council was officially ratified by representatives of all the fraternities one of the most important decisions reached at the meeting was in regard to saturday night dances it was agreed upon that any dance given by a fratern ity on a saturday night should stop promptly at 12 o'clock in the future the council will not sanction an affair of this nature continuing past that hour several other an nouncements were made which however were of minor import ance ing a scheme was suggested by vaux wilson whereby it was pro posed that the different fratern ities should club together and pur chase their groceries and other sup plies at wholesale according to the community plan a meeting of all those interested in this proposition will be held at the delta tau delta house on thursday night october 16 quested to do so as soon as possible the cross-country men have been practicing regularly for the fine program of meets that is being ar ranged by manager tate coach kanaly is rapidly rounding his men into shape and he is confident that out of the thirty-six men who have been out to practice regularly he can pick a team which will be the best lehigh has ever had the first meet of the season will be held with rutgers at new brunswick on november 1 a trial race will be run during the latter part of this month at which time a team will be picked for this meet the rutgers team is a fairly good one and is practicing hard to revenge last saturday's football game it is expected that the re sults of the meet will be very close a meeting of all the students who are members or who are in terested in the r o t c was held wednesday afternoon in packer hall lieut-col lang addressed the men and gave them an idea as to what will be accomplished there will be two hours of class work and one hour of drill each week the time being arranged to suit the students to the best advantage col lang said that he would not be unreasonable with the men w t ho are absent from drill if they can furnish a legitimate excuse and he would not doubt any man's word as he realized that the honor sys tem is in practice at lehigh the question of discipline was brought up and ti was decided that the students pick a committee who would act upon the manner of puishment for unexcused absences and tardiness at drill col lang desires to have lehigh among the honor colleges and if each man will do his part lehigh will un doubtedly be on this list all the men who have not yet been the first electrical engineering meeting of the year will be held friday evening october 17 at 7.30 o'clock in the physics building those in charge of the meeting ex pect and hope to have a large turn out and particularly want all the freshmen and sophomore electri cal engineers to be present the plan for the coming year will be discussed lloyd smoyer 20 will present a paper on elec tric traction in the middle west smoyer is especially fitted to dis cuss this subject as he has spent the months of june july august and september travelling through all the large cities of the middle west working upon the traction systems in many of the cities and inspect ing them the paper will be es pecially interesting from a stu dent's standpoint as giving a stu dent's impression of the middle west and its field for electrical en gineering professor esty head of the de partment of electrical engineer ing will give a talk upon the this promises to be of great in terest especially to the underclass men who are now choosing this oc cupation as their lehigh eleven tomorrow in place of the albright game which was cancelled early in the season this is the first appearance of the aggies here and little is known of their strength this year the battleship arizona eleven defeated them last saturday but it is ex pected that they will put up a good fight to at least cross the brown and white s goal line which to date has never been crossed coach keady has spent most of the week in light work consisting mostly of signal drill several new plays are being perfected for use in the carnegie tech game the following saturday with the ex ception of simendinger rote and pons the team is in good shape and although the varsity will in ail probability start the game it is likely that the second and third string men will be given a chance to show their worth during the con test the injuries to rote and simen dinger received in the rutgers vic tory are not as serious as at first thought and it is highly probably that both of these valuable back field men will be back m the game before the lafayette game rote whose cheek bone was fractured is 1 coming along nicely while it is be lieved that simendinger received only severe of the funds for the erection of the memorial building this campaign will be begun officially on novem ber 1 and close with the lehigh lafayette game on november 22 the alumni have been carefully and closely organized for this pur pose under the able leadership of w r okeson secretary of the association under him there is a general committee whose duty it is to send out campaign literature to all where he has had and is still having a remarkably successful career the chinese students club of lehigh university held its first meeting of the year on last satur day evening this year the club has a record membership of twenty two most of which are old men the old members are back either to take up post graduate w t ork or to continue the undergraduate course during the meeting five new members were admitted the plan for the ensuing year was touched upon and the celebration of october tenth the fourth of july of china discussed the serving of refresh ments marked the conclusion of the
