application will apply to pre-medical and pre law students who expect to go to graduate school and will want 3 to 4 years time-extension whether these men will be granted defer ment will not be known until about june 1 commissions will be ac cepted on or about may 21 this action is to aid the united states government in building its army to a strength of 1,500,00 men in this program about 60,000 must leave their names at the dis pensary before saturday glee club is guest ten openings in primary and sec ondary caa flight training courses are available it was announced by thomas e jackson instructor in mechanical engineering and assist ant instructor in ground training courses five openings exist in the prim ary flight training quota of 30 men there are also five openings in the secondary training quota of 20 men juniors seniors and graduate students to whom the courses are open are asked to apply at room 266 in packard laboratory the primary flight training course requires 35 hours of flying and 72 hours of ground work the university gives four hours credit in the course toward graduation the mechanical engineering de partment is in charge of the ground school course the fee which in cludes insurance a physical exam and the university fee is 25 there is no expense for books ap proximate commercial value of the course is 500 advanced course worth 1000 the secondary flight training course is open only to men who have completed the primary course the requirements are 40 to 50 hours flying in army type training planes and 126 hours of ground work the fee is 34 and the uni versity credit toward graduation is six hours this course which has a commercial value of 1000 is sim ilar to primary stages of army and navy flight training and paves the way to army navy and commer cial flying two graduates of the fall sec ondary courses are now receiving further training in the pilot train ing school of united air lines the two men will then enter the line's service as 42 secretary ward a det wiler 11 bus 42 corresponding secretary and harry s clarke bus 43 historian andre j leroux arts 44 and louis e sharpe phys 42 will speak on the social life of bel gium and the great pyramid of gizeh respectively at 7:15 p m thursday feb 13 at the cosmo politan club according to thomas fleischer m e 42 secretary leroux lived in belgium during the early part of his life sharpe has made a special study of the pyramids and will tell how they predicted the napoleonic wars the world war and many other events this is one of the regular bi weekly meetings of the club at membership to the fraternity is limited to junior business men with a minimum of a two point average for five semesters and a b grade in marketing subjects extra-cur ricular activities will be one of the requirements considered when making selections five of the fif teen men will be initiated into the fraternity at a banquet to be held the last week of february or the first week of march thomas f jones assistant pro fessor of economics will speak on some subject in the marketing field neil carothers dean of the college of business administration and herbert m diamond head of the department of economics and sociology have been invited to at tend the smoker typhoid innoculations will be compulsory for all men attending the summer surveying camp in ad dition to those who will attend the rotc summer camp the univer sity has now ruled the innoculations will be given in two series the first will begin on saturday feb 15 and continue through the two saturdays there after the second series will follow in april the hours for the inno culations are to be from 9 a m to 1 p m all students and faculty men are eligible tor this free service but freshmen who are not compelled to be innoculated must secure written permission from their parents dr raymond c bull director of the student's health service announc ed dr bull advises that those par ticipating in winter sports take the april innoculations and those out for spring sports take the first ser students who might be incon venienced by having an innocula tion during houseparty are advised to sign for the earlier series those who wish to be in this first group must leave their names at the dis pensary before saturday glee club is guest ten openings in primary and sec ondary caa flight training courses are available it was announced by thomas e jackson instructor in mechanical engineering and assist ant instructor in ground training courses five openings exist in the prim ary flight training quota of 30 men there are also five openings in the secondary training quota of 20 men juniors seniors and graduate students to whom the courses are open are asked to apply at room 266 in packard laboratory the primary flight training course requires 35 hours of flying and 72 hours of ground work the university gives four hours credit in the course toward graduation the mechanical engineering de partment is in charge of the ground school course the fee which in cludes insurance a physical exam and the university fee is 25 there is no expense for books ap proximate commercial value of the course is 500 advanced course worth 1000 the secondary flight training course is open only to men who have completed the primary course the requirements are 40 to 50 hours flying in army type training planes and 126 hours of ground work the fee is 34 and the uni versity credit toward graduation is six hours this course which has a commercial value of 1000 is sim ilar to primary stages of army and navy flight training and paves the way to army navy and commer cial flying two graduates of the fall sec ondary courses are now receiving further training in the pilot train ing school of united air lines the two men will then enter the line's service as first officers gordon brandt 40 and frank elliott 40 who took the caa courses are now army pilot-in structors combined musicals hold dance after program seminar hears
