arther h mann upon hearing brennan's statement he clarified his state ment further adding i agree dean brennan's explaination of the university's policy came m the wake or criticism con cerning twocases which the com mittee recently handled in the first case a student was apprehended by the univer sity police as he littered the area m front of taylor hall it was only one piece of paper said the arresting officer j harold gunk but with all this ecology stuff going around l hope they throw the book at him you don't know what kinds of diseases that paper was carry ing the student was sub squently suspended for ihree semesters and fined t>oo in the other rase another student was brought before the committee charge with pla gairizism on five english 1 themes cheating on the english 1 and chem 1 finals altering the grade book of his chemestry recitation instructor and inter state transportation of a stolen vehicle the committee immedi ately suspended him for one sem ester and fired him form his part time jot as driver of the uni versity bus which was recently recovered from slamin sam's quality used cars m pough keepsie new york the student quickly appealed the decision the appeals com mittee decided for the student and reduced the penalty to three university demerits and a nasty letter from president lewis professor kockhildt ling wurst who haired the appeals committee explained that the reason frr the reduction of the penalty was the lack of pre cedent for the decision . we went back over the records of discipline actions since 1903 said lingwurst and we could fina nothng resembling this case we therefore decided it would be m the best interests of all parties concerned if we reduced the sentence lingwurst agreed that all of these things have been done at one time or another by university students but he explained our real problem is that no one has ever done all of them so we really didn't have a viable precedent ." lingwurst discounted the con tention that the presence of the student's father , lulgi i)i antoniari reputed mafia chief ten from bavonne new jersey and several of i)i antoniari's business associates had any effect on the case's outcome applied for the fun of it was accepted without an interview and received housing m a tavlor single at her request having short hair and being slightly built she was able to carry off the facade pat added that her hair was actually shorter than some of the men's m the section attempts to question the male members of pat's freshmen section met with little success amazingly every man m the section had either suddenly left school for the week or was studying diligently behind locked doors one student who was finally cornered did note that he had just thought that pat was a little strange members of the administration also seemed quite adverse to making any statements on the matter it appeared that no one was willing to accept responsibility for allowing the deception to be carried on this long in addition no one seemed particularly enthusiastic about having to decide whether pat will be allowed to finish out the semester at the university when questioned on how the girl had heen accepted m the first place director of admission samuel missedher absolved his department of any fault he noted that since she liad not appeared for an interview and her qual i f i < at ions for acceptance met university standards there was no reason not to accept her he added m his defense that she had checked all of the right boxes on the application so they had no wav of knowing her true sex in an interesting development last night the director of health services stated that his depart ment had known about pat's true sex all along but was unable to divulge the information he noted steel stated the university campus has provided ittractive scenery for steel officials while eating lunch m the homer research labora tory he added that the smoke from tlie university powerhouse enables bethlehem steel not to be singled out as the only polluter m the south side university officials do not appear to sliare bethlehem steel's enthusiasm about the pending sale president w dem ing lewis stated the highly qualified faculty of several hundred the newly enlarged library facilities the many fine classrooms lecture rooms and laboraties the extensive resi dence dining meeting and they still will be eligible for squash memberships at saucon valley country club however protests against the vietnam war will no longer be tolerated lehigh university and be item steel share this panoramic scene recently steel announced it is selling the uni versity to disney productions .« part of a move to divest itself of losing assets commonly known a liabilities reactions to the move are
