faculty chorus club entertain 4th event in series to present columnist philosopher jan 10 play carols presented at christinas meeting of women's club lehigh is playing a major role among colleges in the pres ent national defense program it has added math 128 a course in exterior ballistics to be taught next semester princi pally for advanced r o t c students this special course has been approved by the ordnance de partment and the subject mat ter was made out in collabora tion with r h kent associate professor of research at the aberdeen proving ground md kent recently made a trip to lehigh to study the proper con tent for such a course the prequisite for the course is either math 106 or math 125 shooters plan venison dinner all you can eat banquet to be held at wirth's hotel seen at the cosmopolitan club luncheon from left to right are pres ident clement c williams count otto van hapsburg and otakra ondra president of the society inspection of the building by a brown and white reporter showed that two columns which are steel beams set in concrete flush against the wall had remained stationary the wall had moved however leaving four cracks from top to bottom one on each side of each column the added work is being accom plished by shifting some of the workmen from other jobs after the pressure behind the wall has been relieved and the inside floors completed the space behind the wall can again be filled in dirt is being removed from the back of the re-enforced concrete wall which forms the south side of grace hall to relieve pressure which caused the wall to crack in lour places and move one or two inches from its original position according to president clement c williams the president stated that the sit uation would cause no serious de lay in the construction schedule if the floors inside the building had been finished before the dirt had been filled in president williams stated they would have offered the support that the wall needed feb 27 chosen by freshmen for banquet date affair will be staged at hotel bethlehem archduke otto von hapsburg heir to the throne of the former austro - hungarian empire cli axed his three-day stay in bethle hem yesterday with a luncheon at the university cosmopolitan club in talking about college news papers he quoted the headlines of the paper of his own alma mater as saying the following examin tions start today but we have lit tle hope because idiots can ask during his stay he gave a talk wednesday evening in broughal high school auditorium and made a tour wednesday afternoon of the campus which impressed him as being very beautiful being in terested in american colleges and universities he was particularly desirous of visiting the lehigh campus questions no genius can answer also present at lehigh wo men's club last tuesday afternoon in drown hall the play presented by the dra matic club was sham a one-act play included in the cast of the play were edgar h riley associ ate professor of english william l jenkins assistant professor of psychology robert d billinger associate professor of chemistry and mrs r d billinger the play concerned a clever thief and a couple who surprise him while he is making a robbery the chorus sang a group of christmas carols under the direc tion of mrs tomlinson fort they sang christmas bells by baines holy night peaceful night by hawley and the shepherds and the inn by gaul a faculty and woman's club combined quartet sang the christmas bells of abruzzi by gaul accompanied by mrs fort the quartet was composed of dean wray h congdon mrs edson hardy lieutenant samuel pierce jr and mrs sidney goodrich the chorus is planning to present the gilbert and sullivan operetta the sorcerer on saturday even ing april 26 in drown hall the cast for this production has not yet been fully chosen an old-fashioned german ven ison dinner the second annual affair of its kind will be held by the sportsmen's club at 7 p m jan 11 at wirth's hotel william p varner bus 42 president of the club announced that the banquet will be unique in that pennsylvania dutch dishes will be featured and the all you can eat plan will be followed reservations must be made by jan 8 with varner at phone 4477 deer for the dinner were donated by members who were successful in shooting game on a recent hunt sponsored by the club these men are roy l duncan m e 42 theodore mortimer adler critic considers russell's principia mathematica to be one of the 100 greatest books of all time russell was educated at trin ity college cambridge where he became a fellow after graduation he comes from a distinguished family in england his grandfather having twice been prime minister of england turns to sociology russell has taught in cambridge university lectured at chicago and harvard universities and during the past year was professor of mathematics at the university of california at los angeles among his works are german social democracy foundations of ge ometry and theory of bolshe vism during his visit to soviet rus sia russell became anti-commun istic through his experience be cause he is a pacifist he turned his attention to social questions after visiting can be preserved only through decreased govern mental control of industry labor agriculture and finance other non-decision radio de bates are scheduled to be held after the christmas holidays phi delta theta and delta up silon social fraternities have both held elections of chapter officers officers elected by phi delta theta are president richard w mueller i e 41 reporter p r hornbrook bus 42
