rushing this year ac cording to robert j welntraub : 68 president this decision was made because the members felt that filling a freshman quota during a short rushing period is totally unsatisfactory with con tact regulations more relaxed it is hoped that a more natural relationship may be established be tween freshmen and upper class men weintraub said that rushing as it now exists is a " farce promoting a false and superficial exchange between freshmen and upperclassmen the lower east side he said wishes to stress individual characteristics rather than obtain people who possess similar traits and are socially ac ceptable diversity is the key to the educational value of a living group weintraub claimed that the present rush policy of many residence hall groups is helping to make them " fraternities without greek letters " too much emphasis is being placed on obtain ing men who will fit into the living group rather than those who possess individual merit the opinion was shared by prof george conard in last week's rhc panel discussion on rushing as he stated that fraternities often produce stereo typing and conformity because the necessity to fill a quota has also been eliminated the lower east side will extend bids to selected individuals and will allow the university to fill the remaining vacancies the lower east side finds the " rejection by peers aspect of rushing quite undesirable jim winchester president of rhc , commented that he too thought regular contact with freshmen was much more desirable over artificial contact he said however that it would be diffi cult for living groups using thts form of " rushing tomeetfresh men until the no-contact rules are even more significantly re laxed heart attack fatal to backfieid coach jim mccotjlogue who came to the university as backfield coach at the start of the current football season died of an apparent heart attack saturday night during the engineers game against furman in greenville s.c mcconlogue ■two physicians rushed to his side and administered to him but he was pronounced dead on arrival at greenville hospital born in colorado mccon logue graduated from mora vian college and took his first football coaching job at net eong n j high school where his teams won 30 of 34 games he then coached at allen town central catholic high school from 1952 until 1957 when he assumed the top job at lafayette he held that post until he moved to bethlehem catholic high school two years ago surviving in addition to his wife are a son james pat rick jr one brother and five sisters mcconloguf danish show incurs loss by marty marasco the arcadia roving fund has been reduced to under 1 1,000 as a result of the loss incurred by the danish gym team performance saturday night according to an estimate by jeff kapell chairman of the finance and calender committee which administers the fund kapell said that while fcc does not anticipate any losses for the remainder of the year the low level of the fund will xeverly restrict any backstopping of events not already on the calendar for the year the danish gym team performance cost about 2,000 according to tom borcherdt chairman of the committee for the class of 69 he estimated that about 550 tickets were sold bringing in close to b5o while these figures are only estimates this would put the oss for the performance at around 1,180 < added to the loss on the performance of stop the world—l want to get off which was about 1,100 the roving fund would now stand at about 800 compared with the original september total of 3,000 commenting on the reasons for the loss kapell said he felt there wasn't enough interest on campus to make tfce gymnasts show profitable " the class of 69 did a very good job on publicity probably all they could have done he added he also pointed out the audience considered the exhibition concert a success " this is the type of thing the roving fund hopes to make possible but without taking that much of a loss jim huston president of the class of 69 agreed with kapell saying " i don't think the students knew what the danish gym team was and how good it is it is something that would go over if tried again after the students heard how good it was marty cohen president of arcadia said the lose was a mistake we made last year we should have signed them realizing that there would be a loss and having the class
