thuraday deadline for nine at large seats on arcadia for the eiarttom der il ls ths candidates all sophomores and junior will have eight days m which to campaign beginning sunday evening at 8 o'clock hart roper arcadia election committee head said that this year the elections will be run under stricter rules than m past years to uphold the rules the election committee asked each candidate to aign a state ment of good faith the mala point of the statement waa that tha candidates agreed to follow the election rules or suffer disciplinary action by the cote mlttea roper said this action could be expulsion from the campaign lf the committee felt lt necessary roper ssld that ths committee believed the statement of good faith waa necessary this year to safeguard any irregularities during tha campaigning and voting he pointed out that last year a candidate put letters m the univer sity center mailboxes during ths polling days tha letters were ln many cases then thrown on the floor by tha students the letters on the floor were 100 feet from the polls a violation of campaign rules to prevent this one of ths rules changes this yaar prohibits enter ing of campaign material in students opened last night at broughal junior high school the last two performances are tonight and tomorrow at 8:20 p.m students will be admitted free on their id cards face vietnam on tap area student sponsorship a program entitled face vietnam will be presented tomorrow ia whitaker lab from 1-5 p.m the lehigh students for a democratic society will sponsor the program the main purpose of the program is to provide information about and increase understanding of the events occurring ln vietnam according to roger millar the presentation will not be entirely impartial however but will reflect the opinions of the sponsoring groups prof leon sherman of moravian college will give a background history of vietnam at 1:30 p.m the present situation will then be dealt with by dr john pixton of perm state who will speak on vietnam today - an eyewitness report pixton has been m vietnam and will point out what he thinks ls wrong locust to be shown at l p.m will provide additional information on the war ln vietnam the film shows newsreel footage which points out the brutal aspects of tha war a panel discussion moderated by dr eugene jacobson of moravian at 3 p.m will present opposing views on the war supporting the war will be lt cmdr norman w burchard and prof david r ■rabaut of tht moravian history department burchard recently spent a year ln the u.s embassy ln saigon taking the anti-war position will be prof david amidonof the lehigh history department and dr william r rabaut of the lafayette psychology depart ment the speakers and representa tives of peace organizations from area colleges will be available for informal discussions at 3:30 p.m heckman ceremonies to open cager season welcoming ceremonies for lehigh's new basketball coach leroy heckman will open the season's campaign before the start of the game with muhlenberg tomorrow night at 7:45 ln grace hall the class of 1970 is sponsoring the event ln conjunction with the alumni association to boost attendance and spirit at basketball games and to give the new season a successful opening as did a similar affair for pete csriill last yaar living groups are again invited to participate ln a banner contest for which a dual prize ls being offered this year banners related to lehigh's intended conquest of muhlenberg are to be displayed at the game the living group whose banner ls judged to h hest on grounds of appropriateness totheme creativity and artistic design will receive a trophy plus reserve seat tickets for the class of 1970's temptations concert one week from tomorrow these tickets are not compliments y but will be given ln exchange for the living group's previously purchased tickets they will entitle the winning group to seats m the first ten rows seats which will be held for them until the start of the concert ceremonies for the night will include introduction of both teams by master of ceremonies john steckbeck professor of physical educa tion and presentations to the lehigh players by ths alumni association freshman coach gary walters former princeton great will be introduced after which ray snyder of the alumni association will in troduce varsity coach leroy heckman and make a presentation to him heckman was named ally 1 to replace pete carrill as lehigh's var sity coach his 17-year scholastic and collegiate record ls 284 wins against 94 defeats in his first year of college coaching last season he guided his elizabethtown college squad to al4-8 mark and a fourth place finish m the middle atlantic conference following the ceremonies lehigh and muhlenberg will open their seasons lehigh cheerleaders and s pep band will be on hand to lend spirit to the occasion the banner contest winner will be announced at halftime committee discusses disciplinary methods by jim c ardel i at the committee on disci pline meeting wednesday night representatives from the vari ous judiciary bodies on campus discussed proper methods of re porting cases notifying accused students snd grounds for ap peal of disciplinary cases charles w brennan dean of students moderated the meeting in attendance were charles sei dle vice-president for admin istration prof james dlefen derfer adrian brown jim smith and prof bryan brockway re presenting the comrnittae on dis cipline william quay assistant dean of student life and robert hand representing ifc judic iary committee preston parr and arthur mann representing the dean of students disciplinary committee eric matson repre senting rhc disciplinary com mittee and jeff kapell of ar cadia daan brennan explained the procedure followed ln notifying a student that charges are being filed agalngt mm the me ml ers of the committee on discipline agreed that sufficient notification consisted of a letter to the ac cused through the campus past office dean quay discussed the man ner ln which ifc judiciary com mittee reports on disciplinary action ha aaid that the report serves to inform anyone having an active interest ia the case prof dlefenderfer added that tha reports should be aa accurate as possible so that ths committ ee on discipline can determine m tha event of an appeal whether grounds for a retrial exist under due process jim smith reported that many students at lehigh want to be treated aa individuals with respect to the law thta twtt§m to the situation during the_fg adamic year where tf a student breaks the law off wnpw the university will haadja||nifter t but if the student commits the same offense during the summer he will be prosecuted by civil authorities he also said that now any off-campus offense ia re ported to one of tha daaaa who makes the final decision an to whether the univeralty will dis cipline the student prof james diefenderfer discusses the student's
