produced the 12 cuts on her mercury album ' parking on taylor field hit by john gustavsen the use of upper taylor fisld aa a parking facility has been criticized by tour university aides this week in che aftermath of the university's parking committee ruling to keep the gates to the field dosed according to prof jonathan elkus acting chairman of the music department the presence of cars on upper taylor field would hamper university band practice the only other area suitable to the band's needs is saucon val ley and elkus said that even if transportation could be provided it would take too much time to drive to and from the valley john s steckbeck assistant professor of physical education said the field has too many functions to be used as a parking area not only do rotc and band members march there but sntramurais physical education and recreational activities re quire the use of the field " taylor field to the only remaining place on campus where a student can nm or mt a ball steckbeck aald " tito tennis courts which were across the street from taylor stadium in 1864 were taken for a parking lot in 1865 ths three courts next to the sigma nu house have been replaced by a lot " ths sight which might have been used ftsr a hockey rink has also been mate imo a lot there are basketball backboards aii over the campus which are usually blocked by parked cars ths parking situation is important " but so is taylor field it m ths last vestige on campus of s place where a boy can throw a ball when he haa a free hour besides being one of too little space the problem also recording of " along conies mary during the summer of 1966 their neat record cherish quickly rose te the number one spot nationally becoming one of the top records for the year the association followed up their successful debut with a combination folk rwk and blues album and then . . along comes the association on val iant records the original association was formed in 1964 at the time the group consisted of guitarists jim yesutr gary alexander and russ giguere drummer ted bleu chel and vocalists terry kirkman and brian cole the group is responsible tor writing most of its songs many of their early album cuts were penned by alexander while the sound of cherish was composed by kirk man following cherish the association released two more records for valiant " pandora's golden heebie jeebles and no fair at all although neither be came a best seller they were featured on the association's second album " renaissance renaissance was an appropriate title since shortly afterwards alexander was replaced by larry raifeos fornwriy a member of the new christy minstrels and association signed a new recording contract with warner bros ~ wiiriy their first fecordtaf on the warner gulations university accountability for students through the taking of at tendance will be discussed tuesday the revised attendance regulations proposed by arcadia xxi have been ignored by the faculty's educational policy committee according to theodore r breton 68 co-chairman of arcadia xxrs academic policy committee required attendance and university slimtm»h«»y for students through attendance were the two areas revised in the arcadia proposal of nov 29 arcadia proposed liberalising atten dance requirements by extending the relatively new section vlof the attendance regulations to sophomores and freshmen section vi applied originally only to junior and senior honor students 3.0 cumulative average or better but the faculty extended it to all juniors and by educational policy committee seniors two years ago it now states that all junior and senior students shall be exempted from the university rules regarding class attendance except as those rules apply to attendance at scheduled examinations quizz.es or special exercises and make-up work following absences from such examina tions quizzes or exercises before section vi existed juniors and seniors were expected to attend all classes and regularly scheduled academic exercises after the legislation of section vi juniors and seniors were given rsspoi sibility to decide for themselves whether or act to attend mast classes only seminars laboratories and classes of participation were excluded theore tically the spirit of section vi encouraged involvement in and not mere attendance at classes in practice because section vi legislates in what charles w bremen dean of students terms the gray area of professorial academic freedom not all professors comply with the spirit of section vi those professors who had allowed unlimited cute before section vi now legitimately do so any professor who wished to require attendance despite the spirit of sectioc vi can consider ms class a special exercise glenn j christensen provost and vice-president points oot that speciai exercises have never been defined and that it is the responsibility and right of the professor to set the attendance rules ior his course ■the arcadia revision of section vi extends ths present practice of profes sorial determination of attendance policy to freshmen and sophomores witnout famciously implying a university policy of unlimited cuts arcadia's revision states all students must fellow the regulations set down by their instructors ln regard to attendance m scheduled examinations quizzes or special exercises and make-up work following absences from such examinations quizzes or exercises the arcadia revision continues the policy of sending daily freshman atten dance reports to the registrar so that the dean of students can keep track of freshmen not attending classes and may can them in for coimigeting purposes the arcadia revision however removes from section in of the attendance regu lations the provision allowing work neglect notices to be issued solely tor rea sens of poor attendance in rest rente to the present ear fi on vi dean brennan cannot see where it has hurt on the surface he is in favor of
