urging the administration to adopt a program of ad-hoc student advisory committees in each of the schools of engineering arts and science and business and economics the motion proposed by vice-president casey cogut provides that at least once each semester the department chairman convene his department's ad-hoc committees and invite all tenured members of the department student opinion on three issues would be solicited at these meetings the status of the department curriculum the general level of competency of the un-tenured members of the department and its general workings and future plans also when prospective faculty members visit the university the department would include a meeting of at least three students from the committee with the visitor the junior and senior majors within the department will comprise each advisory committee in commenting on the motion cogut said that the success of each committee depends on the chairman of the depart ment accepting the students proposals he said thai as in the formal organisation of a committee backed by the faculty their ideas would carry more weight arcadia president akk borin said the importance of the motion la to m get an overall structure so that the administration can be approached with a sound program ib a report from the arcadia progress committee chairman andy snider said that his committee u initiating a free university that will go into effect next fail snider explained that five to 10 course of contemporary nature to students will bt offered as the first part of the program each course will be run by students and will hsv m student coordinator who will ask faculty members to participate in the sessions classes will bt held once every two weeks and bo completely informal snider said there are about so courses presently being considered for the free university the beot lor their selection is that there is at least one faculty member who has extensive interest in this field he mulslßslt some of these courses include crime and social change existentialism new directions in film the role of business in society esp the negro in america ted contemporary television on the ad-tes sumifii advisory committees arcadia passed a supplementary motion proposed by cogut urging casey cogut arcadians to hear new constitution by marty marasco a radical revision in the structure of arcadia has been proposed which would increase the power of arcadia while placing ifc rhc and the town council in subordinate positions the new proposal is presently being written by a committee of arcadia under chairman steve globus the proposal will be presented to arcadia for final approval at their meeting next wednesday night the major change in the constitution would be the addition of three arcadians to be known as chairmen of the ifc rhc and town council commissions these students would be elected in an at large election by all members of the body they represent thus the ifc chairman would be elected by all fraternity men the purpose of the change according to arcadia president al borin 69 is to unify the student government into an effective body under the proposal ifc rhc and the town council will still have the right to regulate their own bodies and elect members to the commissions 1 as they see fit the other major change in the proposed constitution is the direct election of the officers of arcadia they would run in an election to be held in early november the remaining 12 members of arcadia and the three commission chairmen would be elected in december all the campus police are the proud owners of a brand new police car a 1960 cheverolet biscayne complete with a well fastened down beacon so that it can not be stolen again the police commented that every year they are presented with a new car we put about 50,000 miles of driving and 50,000 miles worth of idle time on a car each year so it has to bo replaced once a year said patrolman stove bait when questioned about the new color aquamarine of this year's patrol ear baiz commented that it fete a little tiresome having th same old blue year after year i guess they decided to give us a little variety this year there are rumors that the new car has already been initiated to campus life supposedly a cable spool from the con struction area around the new beta boose rolled down the mil and struck the patrol ear when questioned about tills the police said it was nothing at all as for the beacon the pollee stated that if someone is going to steal the light as they did last year they're going to have to take the whole roof with it b4f p by hoffheins new campus police car theater committee may soon meet dr charles seidle vice-president for administration said yesterday morning that a letter would be sent out inform ing all members of a meeting of the theatre committee to be held early next week the committee which was set up by president w deming lewis in february has not yet hid a meeting seidle aid yesterday that a note is going out today informing members of the committee of * meeting he then added that the date for the meeting has not yet bees decided but would probably be sometime early next week prof h barrett dans chosen to bt on the committee said that it was a little bit late in the year to start anything the two student members of the com mittee a mtnskoff 69 and robert weintraub 69 both expressed concern over the future of the committee minskoff said that thjs seems typical of the way the whole theatre movement has been handled weintraub commented there has been a lot of tin lost already and 1 just hops that or seidle has done some independent work on his own although i doubt it dr charles seidle see arcadians page 8
