associate professor of sociology said hs will be concentrating on academic innovation at the university jones whose one year appointment begins sept 1 1969 said in an inter view that he will be working closely with the iresimuui seminar program by offer ing seminar courses in the freshman year students would be slue to gain an educational experience usually available only to juniors and seniors a second area he may be working in is the proposed office for educational development at the university which if it goes through will improve academic development at the university snd set up s research unit to examine the campus environment jones said this research unit is basically an extension of the environmental study the high immediate relevance courses her is another ares jones will be concentrating in he said he hopes that not only arts departments will take advantage of the hlr opportunity but that business and engi nee ring departments will use it also to make innovations could begin as early as next fail if we didn't provide housing on campus for girl students responding to the charge that the university faculty is too conservative he said most faculties are traditionally slow moving in defense of the university he pointed out that it takes a lot to get a system of lehigh's magnitude cranked up jones called his selection a great honor his new position is part of the american council on education's ace intern pro gram the a.c.e chose 61 interns from 91 faculty members who had been selected by their universities because of their potential administrative ability jones stressed that hs will continue to teach during his year as the president's assistant what he will do after the year appointment is uncertain frosh petition for repeal of public guest regulations the freshman class cabinet approved monday a petition calling for the repeal of eh regulations limiting the hours of wo men guests in public areas of freshman residence ai_s s the petition will be circulated by section presidents throughout freshman residence halls the cabinet needs st least 800 names to bring the issue before arcadia tar ap proval former representative charles sieger bad proposed in november the abolishment of visiting hour regulations in public areas of freshman residence halls at a meeting of the social codes committee of the cabi net it passed with three
