brown and white vol 77 no 24 bethlehem pa - tuesday december 14 1965 8660331 honor down - not out the spectre of an honor system has been tempor arily exorcised by the lehigh student body which voted overwhelmingly to reject the arcadia-sponsor ed proposal however according to maury b poscover 66 president of arcadia the honor system is going to be reintroduced he said he would propose at the next arcadia meeting that a committee be created to study the honor system poscover pointed out that it took muhlenberg 10 years to put its honor system into effect the first time it was introduced at muhlenberg it was defeated just as soundly as it was here the final tally showed 429 in favor of the honor system 1,115 against with 60 abstentions nearly 70 per cent voted " no the proposal for an honor system was first intro duced to arcadia last spring by james e becker 66 but at that time it was decided to shelve the pro posal until something tangible could be decided upon becker attributed the defeat of the honor system to " preconceived attitudes he was also of the opinion that although the vote was not on a specific honor system the system which would have been effected was essentially the one voted on with only a few minor changes poscover disagreed with becker feeling that there were many points which the faculty might have changed such as the mandatory reporting clause the narrowness of the coverage and the procedure of introducing the system poscover although he supported the system ori ginally had reservations which he overcame as he learned more about the system he attributed the defeat of the honor system partially to the fact that the student body held some of the reservations he had held earlier hill is invaded again local youths questioned by neal arluck the second attack on lehigh students in the last week occurred friday night at sigma chi fra ternity house fred selby 68 david smith 67 and dennis kluy 66 were treated at st luke's hospital for minor injuries selby told the brown and white that the incident occurred about 11 p.m friday he said he was standing outside the fraternity house with a few other students when two carloads of " mostly juveniles pulled up to the house the occupants of the cars selby said asked the students if they wanted to fight and when they backed off the cars drove off when the cars returned about 10 minutes later selby said he was struck with a stone as he was entering the fraternity smith reported that he was in side the house when the youths returned for the second time he said he went out on the porch and asked a youth to leave the premises he was then attacked in the youth he said police are still investigating the incident to determine the youths responsible both selby and smith told the brown and white that they will press charges when the assailants are uncovered kluy said that he had no com ment several bethlehem juveniles have been apprehended by the police and questioned one of the juveniles reportedly told police that the attack was in retaliation for an alleged attack on his car by student on the campus earlier in the evening police said no information would be released on the juveniles until this week the first incident occurred last sunday night when a 22-year-old bethlehem man was arrested on charges of carrying a weapon in ins car and hit-and-run charges interfraternity council was a result of your recent activity ." initialed by " j r.p the cards told students by means of a checked box to report to dean brennan immediately acting swiftly upon the arrival of the first stunned frosh at his office charles w brennan dean of students had the remaining cards removed from the mail boxes sitting in his office later in the day brennan recounted how
