will be offered on may 14 may 21 and june 3 all ersons interested to taking the exam may <•>*> tain information and application forms from local draft boards before april 1 a selective service spokesman said that no determination as to what would be a satisfactory score has been made as yet he did say how ever that the test may only be taken once the exam will consist of 150 questions covering four general areas — reading comprehension ver bal relations arithmetic reasoning and data inter pretation half of the questions will relate to verbal and linguistic skills while the other half will relate to quantitative skills the exam will be constructed so as not to give an unfair advantage to any type of college major reaction on college campuses to the new defer ment system has been mixed at brandels uni versity several professors lave threatened to stop grading students if class rankings are to deter mine deferments many administrators regarded the sys tem as basically fair but predicted that wide-spread confusion might raiuh n**fi john u monro of harvard university said that if any of his students requested him to withhold their grades from the draft boards he would do so when asked whether he would follow the policy of the harvard dean university registrar james h wagner said he would but added that if a student followed the plan he would probably automatically become i-a he added that the exam is the type which tests general knowledge and that it would be best to take it as soon as possible he said he thought most lehigh students could pass the exam at the present tl melt is estimated that 1.8 million men hold 11-s deferments of these lt is believed that nearly one million will take the optional exam the test will be used exclusively as an added piece hoped that the group might be able to solidify the gryphon society's present nebulous position as they are neither in rhc or ifc ifc president david etzel 66 said that the four groups would develop proposals this week and would meet next sunday to start formulating a master rushing plan student n j friend arrested in town chester ottlnger , 69 will face a hearing later this month on alleged charges of illegal consumption of alcoholic beverages and molesting public property also arrested was a friend robert j godeskl who was visiting ottlnger from new jersey the students were arrested by bethlehem police on friday night after allegedly removing a flag from a pole in the vicinity of fourth street and b rod head avenue later at police headquarters godeskl was reportedly told that since he was from out of state he could post 93 bail which would automatically be forfeited in lien of fines if he failed to be present at the designated hearing the whole incident would in that case be considered closed his only alternative was to spend an undetermined amount of time in jail since godeskl did not have enough money with him a group of lehigh students pooled funds to provide bail for him ottlnger received no alternative but to appear before bethlehem alderman e d warg on a date to be designated this was the second such incident to take place since the city of bethlehem decorated the lamp-posts with american flags in commem oration of washington's and lincoln's birthdays in the first instance five lehigh students were arrested but no definite action has yet been taken against them either on a municipal or on a university level the pittsburgh symphony orchestra under the di rection of ronald andrejka will appear in grace hall at 8:15 tonight the program is intended to demonstrate the musical changes spanned by the university's first 100 years mcnamara nation may use reserves if the intensity of the war in viet nam increases a partial call-up of the reserves would be warranted according to secretary of de fense robert s mcnamara he told congress on february 23 that he didn't want to call up the reserves but it would become necessary if the draft cannot fulfill the needed manpower quota mcnamara stated in front of a joint session of the senate armed services committee and the senate subcommittee on defense approp riations in view of the continued build-up of viet cong and north vietnamese forces in south viet nam we now believe we should be prepared to deploy promptly additional forces to that area if required " president johnson has stated categorically that we will give our commanders in viet nam all the resources they need to carry out their mission mcnamara then went on to state " although the president ims repeatedly stated that the united states has no desire to widen the war in southeast asia we cannot preclude the possibility that our opponents will nevertheless choose to do so such a contingency would necessitate at least a partial mobiliza tion including the call-up of some or all of our reserve forces and the extension of active duty tours pitt symphony tonight the pittsburgh symphony or chestra will present a program of music
