rown and white mmmmmmmmmm vol 77 - no 47 mmmmmmmmmmm 8660331 bethlehem pa hfriday april 29 1966 hp weekend getting off the ground with friday's classes over and sat urday's classes canceled houseparty is already m full swing tonight at 8:30 the brothers four a long-standing folk singing group will give a concert m grace hall the con cert sponsored by the junior class promises to be diversified with a wide ranging presentation of american and foreign folk music the group first became prominent m 1959 when after meeting as fraternity brothers at the university of washington they recorded the million-selling green fields during the intermission of the concert the winner of the houseparty queen contest will be announced earlier this week stu dents voted for four finalists to be chosen from nine entries the winner will be cho sen from the finalists by a panel of judges and with her escort will receive dinner for two at an allentown nightclub-restaurant parties will be m order after the con cert most living groups will have closed parties from 11 p.m to 4 a.m saturday morning tomorrow morning most living groups will pray for blue skle^m£mu^£&ve pic nics throughout^tfl 5 p.m tomorj^tf p^flmnfn r ties may re^fl jwmd may beopenedrah lehigh sdl pt and guests at 10 p.fl parties must be close^j raiders at 2 a.m and must be^hkase at 4 a.m sunday st^^gmhte|^o^^bopen pawies to mor v have their lehigh pphffdsrea^^^l hate police men on prty at each party anyone go enter without a date i i card guests will he admitted with their dates if they have procured a guest card from a living group guest cards will be distributed tomorrow night driving on sayre park roads will be prohibited from 8 p.m tomorrow to 4 a.m sunday only those drivers with hill passes will be allowed to drive m the area during these times actually houseparty is no new innova tion heuseparties started 57 years ago with the then - steve wilcox frosh straw vote rigged bethlehem citizens slam u expansion by lynn havach a gathering of irate bethlehem citizens soundly denounced lehigh's involvement m the city's redevelopment program wednesday night claiming that the university heneftts while the bethlehem tax payer is sold down the river the occasion was an open meeting called by bethlehem mayor h cordon payrow in broughal auditorium and attended by close to 500 persons to discuss the city's proposed initiation of a " dem onstration city program designed to revitalize entire neighborhoods m cities across the country of various population classes the mayor was seeking support for his plan to submit to the federal government a statement requesting that bethlehem be placed m the running for one of the 60 or 70 opening for govern mental aid under the six-year revttalization plan initiated m january of this year by president johnson however the citizens of bethlehem present at the meeting appeared quite reluctant to back the mayor in his request and not see 3 page 8 see only page 8
