book will appear yet this school year and for years to come arcadia plans father's day first of kind to be held muhlenberg game chosen as date saturday evening oct 5 has been set as the date for the 7th annual engineers ball announced robert i felch i e 41 chair man of the committee in charge of the affair this dance the first social event of the 1940-41 school year will feature bud rader's orchestra felch promises several special at tractions which will rival in pop ularity last year's kistometer this device received nation-wide publicity last fall after a picture of it in use appeared in the collegi ate digest proceeds for lounge room tickets are expected to go on sale at 85c stag and 1.25 for a couple the committee in charge is felch chairman walter h vogels berg e e 41 decorations and charles f kalmbach m e 41 publicity once again the dance is under the joint sponsorship of pi tau sigma national honorary mechan ical engineering society,and eta kappa nu national honorary elec trical engineering society each year the proceeds of the dance are used to redeem bonds issued to furnish the lounge in packard lab oratory and to help with the up keep of the lounge grace hall is well underway the lehigh review a 14-year campus publication which had ap peared in at least four different forms since its birth in april 1927 breathed its last in a faculty blitz krieg on monday june 3 it was abolished because it had ceased to serve its original purpose and be cause it had shown poor taste especially in its assortment of ex change material in its issue of may 1940 theoretically the faculty ac tion might not be considered as having abolished the review but to all intents and purposes that seems to be the net result the action technicaly withdrew from the review organization as it ex isted on june 3 permission to con tinue publication of the magazine the exact motion as passed by the faculty was this the faculty withdraws permission from the or ganization now publishing the le high review hereafter to publish the lehigh review or any other periodical or publication purposing to be sanctioned by this univer sity general interpretation by per sons interested in publications work and by other members of * continued on page six less nya funds granted for year to start steelwork soon among improvements is 30,000 boiler the foundations of eugene giff ord grace hall are 30 percent com plete according to andrew w litz enberger superintendent of build ings and grounds at the present time the rigging for the structural steel frame has been completed and it is expected that the steel work will begin during the week mr litzenberger expressed doubt that the structure will be complet ed by the contract date of march 15 1941 unless the work is speeded up because of the doubled cubage of buildings on the university grounds since 1928 it has been ne cessary to install a new 300 high pressure boiler in the university power plant adjacent to fritz la boratory according to mr litzen berger installation work has been proceeding all summer and it is an effort to save lehigh stu dents from facing disciplinary measures for breaches of univer sity rules through ignorance was made during freshman week with distribution of a pamphlet explain ing university academic and social regulations the pamphlet pre pared by dean wray h congdon gives notice that ignorance of rules cannot be accepted as an excuse for winning leniency in such cases the university marking system is defined with all grades and grade values and meanings ex plained make-up examinations re-examinations and special ex aminations are three methods list ed in the scholarship regulations for making up deficiences in course work the rules governing dishonesty as printed on the regulation uni versity examination books are in cluded the fact that the willful giver of information is equally guilty with the receiver is stressed the various penalties for dis honesty are listed they are recommendation for expulsion from the university for clearly premeditated dishon esty in a final examination suspension for one semester for dishonesty in an hour quiz or other exercise or similar value ; dropping from the course with loss of credit for dis honesty in a daily class exercise a student who is convicted of cheating either in a final examination or in an hour quiz shall be on disciplinary probation throughout the remainder of his course and may not therefore at any future time rep resent the university in any student activity or hold office on any student maximum granted to the school — was 24,570 and of this 21,231.40 was paid out to students in return for services rendered the remainder was returned to the government the fact that not all the money allocated was paid out indicates that all lehigh students eligible for nya work who applied were able to earn as much as their class schedules and the maximum fig ure for earnings allowed a revised parties and house dances delta tau delta carried off the honors for pledging the largest class with 14 freshmen three others beta theta pi theta kappa phi and theta xi were close sec onds with 13 men several other houses also followed in close order the 170 freshman pledges mark the smallest class to go frater nity in recent years the number dropped about 40 from last year's record and is only 37 percent of the entire class much of this drop is thought due to the addition of drinker house the newest dormi tory the list of 28 fraternities and their pledges follows delta sigma phi is omitted
