ultimate purpose of the new living group to promote more interest in campus activities more social life and a greater circle of friends the founders believe these essentials are lacking in the town group as it is at the present time any undergraduate or graduate student in the university is eligible for membership in the group how ever the number of graduate stu dents is limited to two at a time the present officers of the new living group are oliphant presi dent robert k beckwith eng 43 vice-president and secretary ar nold o putnam eng 43 treasur er at the present time 11 out of the 14 members of the group have signed as charter members other than the three officers members include solomon p caldwell eng 43 howard l nielson eng 43 robert w saylor eng 43 paul b fitzell c e 42 frederick c tillberg jr met e 42 george h brown bus 42 richard b moyer phys 41 and walter b bowers e e 42 a new living group the alpha town house will go into operation next september at 535 montclair avenue in a house which will ac commodate 14 selected members of the group according to its presi dent lowell k oliphant bus 42 the constitution of the new group was approved by the stu dent activities committee and a nine month lease was obtained for the living quarters by the organiz ers of the idea it is the purpose of the group to live and board at the house under a cooperative scheme where the members will do much of the work in caring for the house themselves according to oliphant it is not the intent of the group to become a fraternity it is hoped that the group will be represented on the town council but no final arrangements have been made so far in this respect claude g beardslee professor of moral and religious philosophy has been made faculty adviser to the will be the installing officer and he will be assisted by the chapter from muhlenberg college the officers of the lehigh chap ter are president richard a ware arts 41 vice president wal ter f daney
