between student leaders faculty and the administration are now m effect the changes will be viewed as an experiment from the very be ginning according to james a dlefenderfer associate professor of chemistry and head of the faculty committee that recommended the changes accepted m principle by arcadia's discipline committee headed by president harvey l york 67 the changes are -- the university committee on discipline is placed overall judicial bodies faculty student faculty and student — " all offenses are reported to the committee on discipline and are then referred to the appropriate dean who may refer the offense to a student or student faculty body for action -- the body trying the case reports its findings directly to the committee on discipline with an information copy to the appropriate dean as necessary -- the committee on discipline will review but not retry all cases m addition to hearing appeals the committee on discipline see editorial page two will only advise the other judicial bodies of sentences which it views as too severe or too mild in a memorandum presented to dr charles a seidle vice presi dent for administration diefenderfer*s committee composed of joseph a maurer chairman of the classical languages department and brian g brockway assistant professor of business law noted that the fol lowing benefits will accrue from the changes -- " the committee on discipline can require prompt action by the appropriate judicial body — " the committee on discipline can instruct all the judicial bodies on proper procedures rights of the accused and proper recording of the transcript in this way uniformity of procedure is achieved — the student committees will feel more independence a need voiced by many at the recent kirby house conference — " the committee on discipline will publish the findings of all students approve plan there are four possible routes for disciplinary problem any one of the seven dis cipline units m lower boxes may report an offense to the committee the committee then sends it to the appropriate dean who may send it if he wishes to any of the four groups m lower boxes for a ruling all rulings are reported to the committee which it also the appel late body m the new plane dr zettlemoyer named vice president research university president dr w deming lewis has announced the appointment of dr a.c zettle moyer to the newly created position of vice president for research he will assume his new position on nov 1 in his new position zettle moyer will conduct long-range planning and organize cooperative programs with government agencies and industries a native of allentown he was graduated from lehigh m 1936 with high honors getting a b.s degree m chemical engineering he earned his m.s degree m organic chemistry two years later also at lehigh in 1941 he was awarded the ph,d degree m physical chemistry at m.i.t zettlemoyer has lectured extensively m this country and abroad particularly europe and asia he currently is m germany giving lectures at frankfurt stuttgart and munich he will return to lehigh oct 28 during world war ii zettle moyer directed a team of lehigh scientists on a research project connected with the u.s synthetic rubber program since then he has directed a large number of research projects and has authored more than 150 papers and chapters for technical journals and books zettlemoyer is currently director of the center for surface and coatings research of which the national printing ink research institute is now a branch he has also served as director of the research and scientific program of this institute since its establishment at lehigh m 1946 at lehigh he has risen through the academic and research ranks being named a full professor m 1950 distinguished professor m 1960 and assistant to the president m 1965 he joined the lehigh faculty m 1941 after serving as an instructor at m.i.t zettle mover has received a number of honors including the honor scroll of the american institute of chemists voight award of the graphic arts industry ault award of the printing ink industry mattiello medal of the paint industry and the bond medal of the american oil chemists society he also has received an honorary degree from clarkson college of technology and the hillman award at lehigh for outstanding service to the university a fellow of the new york academy of sciences he is a member of a large number of technical societies including the american chemical society american institute of chemists american association for the advancement of science tau beta pi and sigma xi dr a.c zettlemoykr parents weekend begins saturday an estimated 1,200 parents will be on campus next saturday to take part m the annual freshman parents day activities the purpose of this event will l>e to fully acquaint parents withthe academic programs their sons are involved m the day's activities will begin with several informal coffee hours at various locations on campus from these gatherings parents will go to one of three convocations at 10:30 a.m a convocation will be held by each of the schools of engineering arts and science and business administration they are intended to give parents an over-all perspective as to what their sons are doing at lehi^h both m academic and extracurricular areas dr robert t gallagher associate dean of the college of engineer ing will moderate the engineering program which will be held m packard i-ab auditorium the speakers will be charles w brennan dean of students robert r panos supervisor m counsullng and tesiint service dr charles j versacci or the school of education dr r s sprague associate professor of chemistry and gry phon james oyler dr w ross yates dean of the college of arts and science will moderate the arts and science program the other two speakers will be dr ralph n vanarnam associate professor of astronomy and mathematics and dr sidney s herman assistant professor of biology this convocation will i>e held m t lie osbourne room of the university center the college of business ad ministration convocation will be lead by dr l reed tripp dean of the college m drown hall other speakers will be dr ric hard a gonce assistant pro fessor of economics dr frank luh assistant professor of ac counting dr warren pillsbury associate professor of econo mics dr brian g brockway assistant professor of business law and dr leon e krouse associate professor of finance after the convocations parents will attend a luncheon m grace hall from there they will go to the lehigh-bucknell freshman football game at 2 p.m following the game a tea will be held m the asa packer and osbourne rooms of the university center arcadia seeks to strengthen associate body my john seitz a program to revise and strengthen ar<u<lia associates has been undertaken by arcadia arcadia president harvey york 67 feels that recent associates problems ran be solved by enlarging the organization and beginning work on more mean ingful projects lack of attendance has forced three members of arcadia associates to be removed several others have resigned due to conflicts with other activities m which they were involved as a result arcadia associates membership has been reduced to twenty plans have been made to expand membership to 35 for the first time freshman will be eligible
