brown and white 866-0331 vol 78 no 19 bethlehem pa - friday december 2 1966 solon committee formed dave buente 67 and steven sotzing 68 are co-chairmen of a new university committee -- the arcadia admissions committee -- which has been set up to contact a number of qualified mgh school and/or prep school students to interest them ln lehigh as a possible college choice " tms wyi be a personal approach and though we are in council with the admissions office tms is strictly an arcadia project sotzing said an advertisement will appear in tuesday's brown and white asking for volunteers from the student body to talk to students from their mgh schools or prep schools over christmas vacation applications will be given to those interested and must be returned to the arcadia mall box by dec 12 later that week there will be an orienta tion meeting to explain exactly what ts expected of the volunteers " the main thing is for the volunteer to work through the high school administration in order to make sure that the schools have enough lehigh application materials sotzing said each volunteer will be given a list of those in his area who have applied to lehigh and it will be his job to contact these people and answer any questions that they may have claimed sotzing he added that the important tmng is to impress upon these persons that the lehigh students care about their incoming classes a similar program will be conducted over spring vacation discipline report passed by dr lewis and deans by neal arluck the " brockway report on disciplinary due process has been approved ln principle by both the deans council and president w deming lewis the report written by brian g brockway associate professor of business law awaits final approval of de tails by the deans council dean charles brennan dean of students pointed out however that the principles of the brock way report are currently being observed even though it has not been approved ln a final form as yet the report states that the fun damental concept of due process " means that in all judicial pro ceedings the student charged with an offense has due notice of the charges and the pendency of pro ceedings is afforded a reason able opportunity for a fair and impartial hearing of ms defense " is heard by a tribunal which is impartial and which will ad judicate the matter on a consld eration of the evidence properly before it la afforded an oppor tunity tb appeal the decision to the university discipline com mittee and ultimately to the faculty of the university the report goes on to elaborate on the rights of the student invol ved in a disciplinary proceeding dionne warwick internationally acclaimed pop singer will appear along with the paul butterfield blues band tomorrow evening at 830 in grace hall tickets will be sold following the cornell wrestling match and also at the door solons drop member for meeting absences due to his absence from the arcadia meeting on wednesday elliot tepper 68 has been removed from ms seat on arcadia xx according to the arcadia constitution any member who misses more than four meetings must be removed from membership tepper's absence was brought to the members attention when a quorum was called he had been elected at large and will be replaced by the candidate who placed tenth in last year's elections also during the meeting dr robert jones assistant professor of psychology pre sented plans for a college student questionnaire arcadia members a creed to support the testing project and to encourage participation of the student body in it in other business arcadia discussed publicity concerning the up coming elections and ques tioned if there was enough enthusiasm a turnout of at least 50 per cent of the student body is necessary for any arcadia referendums to be passed the arcadia freshman life committee stated that a forum was held concerning drinking in the freshman residence halls opposing views were aired and m-m social probation is lifted mcclintic-marshall house has lipi'n taken off social probat ton bv dean peter shurtleff assistant director of residence halls house president thomas oil 11 - gan 68 received a lettet from shurtleff wednesday noting that he was satisfied that the remed ial steps adopted by the m-m executive committee which is headed hy gt 111 gan were heeded the st ps had to do with clean up of the house and adjacent grounds the letter officially re ifc committee cuts du's rushing rights ralph sat her 67 chairman of the interfraternity council judiciary committee announced last week at the ifc meeting that delta up silon's contacting privileges will be suspended until the end of next month the disciplinary action against the fraternity resulted from a con viction by the ifc committee foj dirty rushing the fact-finding com mittee of the ifc confirmed a complaint filed about a party held oct 14 by getting two of the freshmen who were at the party to admit their presence â– sather said that no disciplinary action was taken against the freshmen because of the ifc's failure to distribute rushing rules at the beginning of the semester in other announcements sandy mcconnel 69 is the newly elect ed ifc arcadia representative mcconnel is also chairman of the ifc cultural boost committee and a member of phi gamma delta william j.quay assistant dean of student life ralph levy 67 ifc president and frederick j cuthbertson vice president of ifc will attend a national inter fraternity council meeting in new orleans tms weekend ralph sather party room of m-m following the thanksgiving vacation based on the present condition of the room and assurances that it will be kept clean in the future m-m will be taken off of social probation effective saturday see dean page 13 see solon page 4 see discipline page 6 arcadia election see elections 66 pages 7-10 for complete arcadia election inform ation and candidate pro files
