arkansas in 1921 and now includes 24 chapters the installation of the chapter has been tentatively set for may 26 pending the approval of the na tional officers the members of the muhlenberg chapter of phi alpha theta will attend the ceremonies at which donald b hoffman grad uate student and national secre tary-treasurer will preside international club hears talk on present w t ar williams contest finalists chosen 6 extempore speakers survive eliminations more than 800 sub-freshman ac companied by parents and friends are expected to be present on the campus tomorrow as guests of the university for the annual sub freshman day an elaborate pro gram has been prepared for the occasion and this year additional stress will be laid on conferences with the departmental heads and on exhibits by the various colleges sub-freshman day will begin officially at 9 a m when registra tion and tours of the campus will be held under the direction of a number of guides chosen from the o'clock monday afternoon first call will be at 1:20 p m with the first and second battalions lining up on the lower field and the third battalion on the memorial walk the main awards will be the loyalty of lehigh alumni is praised by frank b 8e11,'98 chair man of the lehigh alumni fund in an article entitled gentlemen the fund in the current issue of the lehigh alumni bulletin which was mailed to subscribers on mon day bell enumerated the building program on the campus which has been made possible to a large ex tent because of alumni contribu tions totaling 650,000 since the fund's a meeting of the board of publications at which a motion to abolish the epitome after publi cation of this year's book was tab led dean wray h congdon chair man of the board has called an other meeting to be held at 4:10 p m tuesday in his office to con sider the matter at this time the board is to elect or approve offi cers for all student publications but the board if necessary can de lay action on any or all of these elections no juniors to compete the regular sophomore competi tive examinations for the five jun ior editorships of the epitome were held last evening sixteen sopho mores took the examinations the junior competitors for the senior offices of the yearbook will take no examination this year as ken neth k kost faculty adviser to the yearbook said that certain circumstances made them unne cessary the board which met in the off ice of the dean accepted financial reports from the epitome brown and white and the review before a report on the epitome made by kenneth k kost assistant in jour nalism was read by the dean asks board decisions kost who was made faculty ad viser in may 1938 when robert f herrick resigned made the report to give the board an understand ing of what has happened since the reorganization at that time he also asked the board to determine the future of the yearbook whose editors have always had to choose between low-cost or quality some of the questions which he asked the board to reach a decis ion on were should the senior assessment be raised in order to provide more revenue should lehigh continue to pub lish an expensive yearbook should the epitome contain ad vertising should the arrangement and layout of the epitome be changed should the epitome contain more editorial material should the epitome be broken into two books a class book and a yearbook as it once was the discussion of the problem led to the motion it was tabled on motion of robert c good editor of the 1940 epitome and a student member of the committee on educational pol icy is presented in experiment delegates attend odk conference the possibility that the 1940 epitome will be the last lehigh yearbook was disclosed yesterday following a meeting of the board of publications at which a motion to abolish the epitome after publi cation of this year's book was tab led dean wray h congdon chair man of the board has called an other meeting to be held at 4:10 p m tuesday in his office to con sider the matter at this time the board is to elect or approve offi cers for all student publications but the board if necessary can de lay action on any or all of these elections no juniors to compete the regular sophomore competi tive examinations for the five jun ior editorships of the epitome were held last evening sixteen sopho mores took the examinations the junior competitors for the senior offices of the yearbook will take no examination this year as ken neth k kost faculty adviser to the yearbook said that certain circumstances made them unne cessary the board which met in the off ice of the dean accepted financial reports from the epitome brown and white and the review before a report on the epitome made by kenneth k kost assistant in jour nalism was read by the dean asks board decisions kost who was made faculty ad viser in may 1938 when robert f herrick resigned made the report to give the board an understand ing of what has happened since the reorganization at that time he also asked the board to determine the future of the yearbook whose editors have always had to choose between low-cost or quality some of the questions which he asked the board to reach a decis ion on were should the senior assessment be raised in order to provide more revenue should lehigh continue to pub lish an expensive yearbook should the epitome contain ad vertising should the arrangement and layout of the epitome be changed should the epitome contain more editorial material should the epitome be broken into two books a class book and a yearbook as it once was the discussion of the problem led to the motion it was tabled on motion of robert c good editor of the 1940 epitome and a student member of the board the other members of the board present were dean congdon professor adelbert ford howard j lewis and fred galbraith banquets dances teas are planned dickinson send 25 pittsburgh muhlenberg six men all seniors were sel ected as finalists at the prelimin aries in the williams contest in extempore speaking held wednes day evening in packard auditor ium the following who will speak in the finals to be held at 8 o'clock next wednesday in packard auditorium were selected frank l benedict jr bus fred e galbraith jr arts john v mcguire e e norman l morse ch e albert e ponter jr bus and j c walker arts the 17 contestants who spoke last wednesday were divided into three groups judging the first and third groups were dr glenn christensen instructor in english carl strauch instructor in eng lish charles j moravec assistant university news editor kenneth b horning fellow in english the following judged the second group dr robert m smith head of the department of english dale h gramley university news editor gellert alleman instructor in english and j calvin callaghan director of debating the freshman contest will also be held next wednesday because there are only four freshmen en tered preliminaries were omitted freshman contestants are as fol lows robert p whipple eng lynn c bartlett arts arnold putnam eng and edwin h daf ter jr eng prizes in the junior and senior contests are 75 50 and 25 dollars freshman prizes are 50 and 25 dollars rifle team plans banquet the annual rifle team banquet will be held at 6:30 p m tuesday at trainers restaurant in quaker town new officers will be elected at this time and letters numerals and medals will be awarded all active members of the freshman and varsity rifle teams are eligible to attend college magazines throughout the country will be contributors to the exchange issue of the lehigh review to appear sometime during the middle of this month the best college humor car toons and fiction of the year will be brought attended the northern province conference of omi cron delta kappa national senior honorary activities fraternity held last saturday on the campus the conference was held to cre ate good feeling
