lehigh university brown and white vol 78 no 38 bethlehem pa - friday march 31 1967 866-0331 new solon for rhc opposed by arcadia by marty marasco arcadia president marty cohen 68 questioned the validity of the move by the residence halls council to hold an election to fill the arcadia seat presently held by bob kaufman 68 at the wed nesday night arcadia meeting arcadia also voted to approve the rhc rushing proposal in principle by a 7-6 vote with three ab stentions at its meeting on march 15 at the meeting on wednesday night cohen said that rhc did not have the power or the right to hold an election for kaufman's seat he pointed out that once a student is placed on arcadia by rhc he can be removed only by arcadia or the entire stu dent body jim winchester 68 newly elected president of rhc disagreed he said that kaufman's appoint njent was only a temporary appointment until provisons for a new arcadia representative from rhc could be written into the rhc constitution this provision was made in the constitution short ly before spring vacation and winchester then called for the election cohen pointed out that the arcadia constitution supercedes the constitution of any other student organization cohen and winchester will meet to discuss th problem the issue will be brought before rhc on tuesday when it meets to hold an election for the seat on arcadia in other business arcadia voted to send a letter of commendation to mike caruso 67 on behalf of the student body in recognition of his winning three ncaa wrestling championships and distinguishing both himself and lehigh arcadia also approved the social schedule for the 1967-1968 academic year at the march 15 meeting there was consid erable debate before arcadia voted to accept the rhc rushing proposal in principle the proposal would allow freshman in upper class living groups and vice versa before the rushing period except on saturdays and during scheduled parties it would also allow freshman sections to attend parties during the fall semes ter ted breton 68 stated that the proposal was unworkable and might mushroom causing more problems al burin 69 spoke in favor ot the pro posal he said that many freshmen are hurt as a result of the present system and that the rhc proposal would improve the situation ai minskc.n 68 said that arcadia should not take a selfish view we should try to consider how this will affect the freshmen the present svtem has hurt a great many people he added in other business at that meeting c"nn!e vaslh ades 68 moved that arcadia establish an ad hoc directory committee and make recommendatioas for improving the procedure bortn amended the motion by adding to empower the executive to look into publishing our own directory the motion passed as amended arcadia also passed a motion to form a student faculty committee to organize a forum for visiting lecturers the committee will consist of two faculty and three student members jack irwin 68 was appointed to head the cross roads africa committee . baw photo by hoffheins the first to win three -
