press carried a story that many who are associated with lehigh and its athletics program never hoped to hepr it said that pete carrll had resigned from his post as basketball coach at lehigh to take a similar position at princeton thus the talk of a lehigh basketball surge under coach cariil came to an end only a little more than a year after it had begun coach carrll did much with little in his short stay in beth lehem his squad's 11 wins were the most for a lehigh basketball team since 1952 and the team's upset victory over rutgers will not be forgotten quickly the coach found recruiting new players for lehigh harder than he had expected but still he managed to land pennsylvania all-stater norm waters for next season's squad all seemed set for next season but when princeton's bill van breda kolff resigned from his post at the ivy league school in order to assume a professional comchlng ob with the los angeles lakers trouble erupted van bred kolff a clone friend and former coach of carrll while the two were at lafayette highly recommended his former student for the vacant job but once princeton made the decision o hire carrll all was not completed the final choice was up to carrll and according to him " it was not aneasyone in an effort to retain its sought after coach lehigh matched the original offer made by princeton but the tigers not tone outdone raised their bid but this wan not the reason pete carrll left lehigh a few weeks before he had told the brown and white that he did not want big time basketball because he felt that he would be going against the ideals of a uni versity and " he would be pros tituting himself if he berame a part of it but princeton is different pete carril 68 candidate a hoax by marty marasco gladstone unopposed andy seiner candidate for president of the class of 6b does not exist and his name will be removed from the ballot this leaves aubrey gladstone the incumbent president of the class unopposed foi ilie position seiner's candidacy was vali dated by the arcadia committee handling the election after it had received a petition signed by 30 students including several cam pus leaders constantine vasiliadls 68 head of the arcadia elections committee said that although none of the committee mem bers had heard of seiner they saw no reason to doubt his ex istence vasilladls was informed sun day that seiner did not exist after checking with the reglstar to confirm the report vasilladls said " we will block off seiner's name from the ballot no write in candidates will be counted the brown and white had pub lished an interview with seiner on wednesday william taylor 70 the reporter who wrote the story said that seiner called him i had no reason to believe that seiner was not a real stu dent at lehigh university or that the person i talked to on the phone was not seiner said taylor gladstone said that he real ized that seiner didn't exist fri day morning he said he then contacted several arcadians who informed vasilladls about seiner a spokesman for the group who pulled the hoax said that sev eral members of the university community felt that a change was necessary we felt that cinrs governments were disolv ing into nothing " this group felt that perpet action expected on u bookstore by robert j weintraub we can expert rather prompt action on the remodeling of the bookstore prof charles patterson told the brown and white sunday he said the remodeling would make the supply bureau's inventory more satisfactory to the lehigh community patterson chairman of the subcommittee formed to investigate improvements for the lehigh supply bureau reported that the committee's findings and recommendations have been submitted to the administration and the planning and development committee of the board of trustees the committee's findings include the following 1 during the peak of textbooks sales in september the volume of look sales has reached 35,000 on a single day the volume drops off rapidly uit still averages several hundred dollars daily throughout the rest of the semester 2 the supply bureau has 3,000 square feet in the store and an additional 600 square feet in a basement storeroom in the center fcr a total of 3,000 square feet the national association of college stores recommends lour square feet per student for institutions of lehigh's sire thus by this standard the supply bureau is faced with a deficit of approximately 16,000 square feet 3 a bookstore equipment consultant indicated that new display furniture in the center of the present store would permit an increase in book capacity by approximately one-third he saw no other equipment lunges which would improve the store further in his judgement the space devoted to articles other than books was not excessive in the supply bureau the findings included statistics which showed that textbook inventory and sales have increased tremendously since 1958 while there has always existed a limited supply of non-textbook paperback items the committee's recommendations include the following 1 that the interior of the store be remodeled to permit ap increase of book inventory by one-third estimated cost 8,000 2 that the additional space acquired l*e devoted to educational paperbacks a wider assortment of magazines and records if possible 3 that the possibility or transferring the peak textbook sales against leavitt was made by peter shurtleff assistant dean of students and assistant director of residence halls who said that he received the information from student sources he added that these sources included one or more members of leavitt house shurtleff said that he had discussed the matter with an officer of leavitt house who admitted to the charge and was according to shurtleff " very honest about the whole matter shurtleff added that he " didn't want to make a statement about the possible outcome of the charge because his statement " might hurt leavitt house the matter was
