disclosed that the committee on discipline had taken action this week in the case of two under graduates found guilty of violat ing university regulations con cerning cheating a student was dropped from english 0 and denied any credit for the course for writing a theme ahead of time and copying it in class another was found guilty of copying a problem in math 20 mechanics during an hour quiz commenting on the latter case the dean declared because this misdemeanor was unpremeditated and not in character with the stu dent's conduct to date the com mittee voted to drop him from the course without credit instead of suspending him from the univer sity the student who provided help is also to be disciplined with the nature of the punishment de pending on further investigation of the case thirty-three new members were initiated into the newtonian soci ety honorary freshman mathema tics group at a meeting last night in room 66 of packard laboratory several other men who are eligible for membership but who were un able to attend last night will be initiated in the near future frank h bower eng 43 was elected president maynard g ar sove eng 43 vice-president and walter s titlow jr eng 43 sec retary for the coming year the meeting was presided over by edward f bodine m e 42 who spoke on mathematical pro digies describing some of the ex traordinary feats of mental math ematical philosophy of mathe matics tau beta pi national honorary engineering society tapped five seniors and ten juniors yesterday afternoon before the memorial to dr edward h williams founder of the society according to edward g uhl physics 40 president the 15 men listed below were elected to the society last monday evening following a smoker held in drown hall dr benjamin l miller professor of geology
